How do I open this Bargman 62 license plate light?

I have this Bargman 62 license plate light and need to replace a burned out bulb.

I have not been able to figure out how to open it without breaking it. Pushing on what looks like a tab didn't feel like it was releasing anything.

P.S. Removing the screws is not a good option, that gets you to the back of the assembly, not the section under the lens where the bulb is located.

  • westend, I've been looking for some of that, would you be more specific as to product & sources? Big Boxes here don't seem to have anything by 3M.

    Thx

    Here's the quote from Bargman:

Thank you for contacting Tech Support. If the license plate light is the 62 Series that is pictured, you will have to remove the light, and then you can access the bulb socket from the rear. The replacement bulb is a #168.
  • If you end up needing to remove the entire lamp sawing gently back and forth with some stout fishing line should cut thru the silicone easily.
We use it to remove mldgs and emblems at the shop.
  • A couple trailers ago I had one similar, lens slid into covered part. Push on bottom edge gently and it should slide open.
  • 3M makes a silicone remover that works like magic. You spread the stuff on, enclose with a piece of Saran wrap and go about your business for half a day. When you come back to the light, the silicone can be removed with a rag.

    Yes.

But,,,I wonder if you can break out the glass and install a new bulb from the outside. If the light points down the missing glass will not hurt anything. What have you got to lose ?

According to Bargman themselves, that 'not a good option' is indeed the option you need to take.

****! I was afraid of that..... It's siliconed on to the back of the motorhome. I'll have to cut away the silicone and then reseal it when I'm done.
