- elijahsdreamExplorerWhoa. Hold on there toes. I did call. I asked if they wanted me to have it rebarned. They said NO. And frankly when the insurance guy and I spoke he stated that it shouldn't be moved due to the condition of the side. I HAVE NEVER BEEN THRU THIS BEFORE. Hind site is 20/20 , heck at this point I would shoot some gorilla glue in that sucker. But it is done. I trusted that they know how to handle this stuff...they are my RV insurer.
- toedtoesExplorer IIIElijah - I don't know of any insurance company that would have anything to do with the covering of the RV. It's not the insurance company's responsibility to tell the repair shop (or you) to cover the RV in case of rain. When the RV is in YOUR possession, it is YOUR responsibility; when the RV is in the repair shop's possession, then it is a combined responsibility between you and the repair shop.
If it sat in your possession for 3.5 weeks, then why didn't you put it back in the barn during that time? I get maybe one night because you thought the insurance guy would be back, but when he didn't show the next day, you should have taken control and protected your possession. - oldchief7155ExplorerSounds like the rv is probably going to be scrapped so go get your things out before they are all ruined by exposure.
Sorry for your loss but it is a "thing", not a person. - winnietreyExplorerIf heat caused the caulking to fail, I would think ever rig in hot climates would have the same issue.
Maybe a dumb question, but who did the re-caulking, what did they use and did they do it right? Any chance someone used silacon or somethihg else other than dicor? - elijahsdreamExplorerToedtoes- it was here for 3.5 weeks. It has been there for 2.5 weeks. But cover hasn't been a "thing" that the IC has indicated, even when asked. Again, this is one reason I am confused.
- toedtoesExplorer IIIIf the RV is and has been at the shop throughout all this, then I think you need to discuss this with the shop owner. Seems to me that there is a responsibility there to prevent additional damage while it's in their possession.
Perhaps your conversation with the insurance company should be about the liability of the shop. - elijahsdreamExplorerThe camper is setting out at the shop. It has never been under any cover there. There is nothing on it ( tarp etc.) Never has been. And if it makes you wonder, just imagine how I feel. And maybe now you understand where some of my confusion is coming from. What the heck happened?!?! We have not brought it back yet but I am going to see if we can. She is completely full of our things.
JJBRISH- your fine. I don't mind questions, I actually prefer them. You see, I know the story but I have great difficulty conveying it at times. So thank you again. And yes, I definitely will update this as I find out. You all have struggled along with me and I owe it to ya. - JJBIRISHExplorerGaryhaupt
“you will have by now come to the realization that many on this forum want all the juicy details, and in turn will take you to task and tell you how it is all your own fault, will suggest that you are hiding something, or, at the very least, tell you how you are about to be left out in the cold.”
I’m not sure this is a fare statement to make… I would like the juicy details to, but not to take the OP to task or pass blame… but blame will be assessed before any claim is paid…
This thread, the damage incurred, and the rate of deterioration are all of a strange nature to say the least… I for one would like to know the why, what, and where also, because it is like something I have never heard of, so may have a cause I have never heard of…
I do understand it being left out when the insurance company said they would be there to do a follow up… I understand the OP had no intent to not protect the unit or to do farther damage and was following the instructions given them…
I also understand the emotional attachment and how the OP feels the loss that I or others aren’t feeling…
but there is one truth the OP is going to have to prepare for… the insurance has no emotional attachment either, and they are going to want to know the same things I would like to know before they will even consider opening their checkbook… that I believe is a given…
they are going to require a determination of the cause before they will cover the effect… without a cause there is no claim to pay, and the cause will determine the coverage’s and limits they will pay…
the damage after the claim and the responsibility for it, that the OP seems most concerned about is secondary (or maybe separate from) to having a compensable claim to begin with…
I sure hope the OP follows up with any information on how this strange event might have happened regardless of fault or where it lies… I think it is a fascinating story and it has sure raised my curiosity…
I wish the OP well and much good luck with his problem… - toedtoesExplorer IIIA few questions:
Since the original $1600 repair estimate, who has been in possession of the RV? Has it remained at the repair shop during all this time? Or was it brought back to your home?
What does the repair shop say about the added damage? What do they say about the fact that the RV was left out in the rain when it obviously had leak issues?
If I had taken my RV to a repair shop to fix a LEAK, I would expect them to take steps to ensure my RV isn't exposed to more water. I would expect them to tarp my RV if they didn't have an indoor storage area. - elijahsdreamExplorerOh thank you all for your responses. I so do appreciate it. I came on here after great deliberation. I wanted to see if this was the "norm", if anyone else has had these kind of issues. I am not slamming my insurance. I have only had this camper since she was brand new and I have never had a claim on anything. So I truly don't know how anything goes, and of course I am heartbroken as well but nothing anyone can do about that.
I do have photos. They are with my trusted shop guy. And I believe they are in the cloud thingy.
Winnietray- there is a post about why it wasn't put back into storage.
Yes I have saved all the emails. But I think the insurance man already knows as he admitted that they were at fault for the long delay causing more damage.
jspence1- thank you for sharing your experience, just what I was looking for. Although definitely NOT what I wanted to hear.
Vulcaneer- the windshield I will try and be. Very wise.
Thank you all again. You have given me so much assistance and avenues to look at, I very much appreciate it.
