That's funny. I said virtually the same thing to the finance manager last time I bought a new car and he tried to pitch an extended warranty!!!

I bought a extended warranty on my used motorhome, sometimes in comes in handy when something expensive breaks down, after putting all my money into the down payment to keep the monthly payment low I did not need a motor or transmission going out shortly after purchase, its a protection when needed, the choice is yours..

Motorhomes are not always cheap to repair..

Could have been worse though. When I bought my 04 Fifth wheeler a few years ago, I did not purchase an extended warranty with the dealer. Four months later I stopped at the dealer to inquire about a leaking roof in the shower. To say that I was a little shocked when I pulled up to their lot would have been an understatement. The lot was empty and the office closed with Out of Business written over the windows. Found out later that a few weeks after I made my purchase, they had a bankruptcy sale. All dealer warranties for used RV's without a company warranty were voided. Two of the residents at the RV resort where I was staying at the time had also purchased their used RV's but with extended warranties from them and lost out. Dealer warranties were not picked up in the bankruptcy sale.

YOU are betting the company that you will have expensive problems and will recoup your investment plus a little.
THE COMPANY is betting you that you will have NO expensive problems for the life of the insurance policy.
Insurance companies are in business to make a profit, which they ALWAYS do.
Who do YOU think usually wins the bet?

I had an extended warranty (now expired) on my initial purchase but never used it. It cost around $2,300 when we purchased. If you buy one, be sure to understand what is NOT covered and who the authorized service centers are.

I prefer to bank the money and have my own RV repair/upgrade fund that I can use any way I want.

But - if ya just gotta have it - the price of the one offered by the dealer is negotiable (no matter what they tell you).

BTW - no guarantee (no pun) the warranty company will still be in business at -or before- the warranty expiration. Buyer beware!..:W

I just purchased an extended warranty from Cornerstone thru Wholesale Warranties as I got tired of paying for repairs on a 13 y/o DP. I paid $3K for a 4 year warranty. When we got the MH in 2010,I paid for a professional inspection and except for a couple of very minor items,it passed with flying colors. I even followed the inspector and watched as he did the inspection.Oh and I am a school bus driver and so know what he's looking for.
I took the advice of several folks on this forum and put the money,$4K,I had set aside for a warranty in the bank. Oooppss,the first three problems cost me $10k,all of which would have been covered by the warranty and would have cost me $300 in deductible.
I would not buy a warranty on a new rig till the existing factory ones run out. Also,make sure you send in the registrations that you find in the owners manual,etc.I had a friend that didn't and had several warranty problems that they wouldn't cover.

Never purchased an Extended Warrenty for ANYTHING yet!

A few years back I purchased a 3 year extended warranty on my $300 portable generator. Recently took it back to the local CW where I purchased the generator and warranty from and was told by the service manager that they were not authorized to do warranty repair work but for $165 they could check it to find the problem and have another CW do the repair work. Thanks Tampa, you just lost a customer.

Read the contract. If you are purchasing a new item with a 1 year manufacturers warranty and you buy a 7 year ext warranty as part of the deal, you are actually only getting to use 6 of the 7 years.
