Leave equalizer j-hooks on bars when leveling and attached

Equalizer question. Occasionally on an overnight stop I find I don't need to disconnect the truck from the hitch to level the rig front to back. I can simply raise the rv and truck together. In this case, should I remove the cotter pins from the j-hooks on the trailer ends of the bars, to let the bars "float" of their own accord as I raise the rv and truck? Or should I leave everything rigidly attached as it is while we are under way? Or doesn't it matter?
  • I don't think it really matters. I leave mine all hooked up, just use the jack to level front-to-back. It may raise the rear of the truck, but that's no problem.

Now, if the front needs to be lowered, yes, I'll go ahead an unhook. I leave the bars in the hitch and just swing them back out of the way.
  • I just leave 'em in place, unless I need to do some major leveling.
