Loneliness and the solo RVer

I would look into parking in bigger RV parks with lots of activities. You can get as involved as you want to and stay as busy as. You want to. I have stayed for brief periods at a number of these and have been amazed at how quickly you can become part of the community.

Snowbird parks are excellent places to meet others. There are always older singles looking for companionship. Most people are friendly and there's the clubhouse to meet others. There is usually something going on at the clubhouse in the evenings. We stay at a place outside Silver Springs FL for only $220 a month. It's like family there.

Join the Escapees RV Club and then stay at their owncampgrounds - especially around the holidays. They are the friendliest places in the RV world. We loved the Benson, Arizona one!

Try volunteering in national or state parks or Fish & Wildlife. We did and had awesome experiences. Our best was giving lighthouse tours.

It gives you purpose, fills in time and you meet some wonderful people. The park management treats volunteers better than paid employees. :) They had us over for meals, came to our campsite just to chat, gave us excellent recommendations on places to explore or eat, etc. Try it.

That's a great idea! And the smoker, and I remember another (non-loner) thread one time where someone mentioned baking cookies. I guess I need to put out the (metaphorical) welcome mat :).

We are seasonal and have two different loners right near us. These guys are 100% total opposites of each other. One is outgoing and a bit nuts, but does not like the fact he is alone.

The other is reserved, doesn't mingle much and is not afraid to tell you that he prefers to be alone and not mingle much.

Both winter in FL and Summer in New England. As with everything else, to each his own!

Shoot, my best trips are when the wife and kids stay at home and I get to camp in the boonies with my dog and a fishing pole. Why in the world would anybody want to ruin that type of serenity with other people?

My wife and I are, obviously not loners, but we both volunteer. I still can move around so do handyman work for seniors trying to stay in their homes. My wife volunteers at a place similar to Goodwill that sells donated goods at a greatly reduced price to those who have needs.
The point is that there are many people out there that need help in one form or another. Maybe you can fit someone's needs.

I suspect that our situations are slightly different. I'm a solo RVer, but I've never been married. Don't even have a relative that's still alive. I'm alone, but not lonely. I consider it a bonus. I go where I want, when I want and stay as long as I want to see what I came to see. I never get in arguments with myself over my choices.

Many times a loner will stop at our campsite and ask a question or say something. We invite them to take a chair and from there they often drop in. Or we stop to talk to them. I am more apt to say something to someone sitting out by their fire than my husband is. We stay in campgrounds and not RV parks where there might be more things for a loner to do.
And when I say loner, I mean either a man or woman.
