Progressive Insurance Problems with Claim

I have Progressive insurance on my MotorHome. When traveling home from Michigan I was on I55 (August 26, 2014) a large wind gust hit the side and took part of the roof... the roof then started shredding.
Progressive denied my claim saying poor maintenance.
I had my roof maintenance done in Florida January/February 2014... A friend of mine took pictures of the work as I was not able to go up on top.
I have submitted the pictures as well as cancelled checks.
I am waiting for a reply.
Has anyone else had problems with Progressive?

  • The only thing progressive is good for are their stupid commericals.I had progressive for 4 years, no claims nor tickets. They increased my ins. every year, when I called they offered no explanation. Some of you treat dayspring as a criminal. The company cares less.
  • correct, Progressive is a underwriter for USAA. I dropped Progressive because
of their pricing. didn't take long to receive a phone call asking why. when I told them GEICO beat them by $400 for same coverage the caller wanted to do a price comparison to see if they could match GEICO and get me back as a policy holder. I said no and that they should have been up front with me when I was in the process of renewing my policy instead of just assuming I would do a policy rollover w/out checking and comparing...they did refund the difference of remaining time left on policy to my credit card...this was on my 2013 Harley Tri-Glide but I suspect it's their policy across the board. we do not have TT insured w/them any longer either.

Cale, what terms? I've been a member since '62 and they sent me to Progressive for the RV...said they don't cover them. Thanks!

After being on the east coast most of my career (I was in Virginia when I fought with Progressive), I have always asked for RV insurance. It wasn't until we moved to California that it dawned on me that I had be screwing it up. California doesn't require separate insurance cards for your trailer, it falls onto your tow vehicle policy. So we moved here and Progressive said that they would have to insure my truck, I told them they were out of the minds. I called USAA and they said that the truck and trailer to together and USAA would insure it. They also told me that I need to let the agent know I have a travel trailer or 5th wheel, do not say RV at all... If I say RV, they see that as a Class A, B, or C. So, in VA they don't do RVs, but they do travel trailers. So I have been told, I have anther year before we get out of CA to find out.

With all that being said, there are probably a few places they actually don't insure a trailer. They are the same with motorcycles. Only 5 or 6 states and overseas.

  • I have Progressive on my boat and will surely change at the next renewal. They are a total hassle to deal with when it comes to a claim.

Speaking with an owner of a repair shop, he informed me that their adjusters get a commission off whatever they can save the company and will, therefore, fight to deny claims whenever possible.

  • Tell us the year, make, model of your motorhome. Roof maintenance means resealing, not repair. Comprehensive should cover storm damage, hail, etc.
  • What kind of wind was it? I mean, you're going down the road at, what, 65-70 mph? And a wind stronger than this affected your roof? What 'maintenance' was done? Must of been a real lousy job. Sorry to speak my mind.
  • I had Progressive also, before I figured out the correct terms to get USAA insurance. I to had a major problem. Traveling to Newport, RI via NYC, I happened upon a pot hole near the GW Bridge, it was the size of a VW Beetle. I hit it real good, buckled an internal wall. Thought that was it, then when it started raining a couple weeks later, there was a pretty good leak up front. The RV repair facility said they were pretty sure that the impact of the pothole shifted the box...Progressive said that pretty sure was not 100% sure, therefore I had to pay for that fix. It cost me about $3k... I am not a happy camper when it comes to Progressive.

  • Have you gotten in touch with the repair shop that worked on your roof and questioned them as to what they did and areas they worked near the tearing off part?
  • If wind blew off your roof, maybe it wasn't a very good fix and the ins co may be right about maintenance.
