When traveling out west on motorcycle several times, I was concerned about the heat in the saddle bags. I found the following note regarding bear spray. "It is recommended that it be stored in 4" PVC pipe with screw caps while in transport". There are several sites that sell ones made up for about $20.00. Put a pc of foam around the can to stop it from bouncing around in the tube. This will also help should you get a leaking can.
