RV Parks w/older RV restrictions

As mowermech mentioned, it's their rules. They are a private business, there are no rights type of thing. While one might feel they are discriminated due to the age of the RV they have, they have the right to refuse service.

I haven't come across any with the age rule, but have come across those that will not allow pop ups or even hybrids. My in laws own a spot in Riverbend Motorcoach Resort in Labelle Florida. If you notice it says "Class A" resort. On top of being Class A, they have to be a minimum of 28'. From talking to my in-laws, you more than likely will not find a Fleetwood Bounder in there. Most of them are 40'+ diesel pushers as people mostly own the lots. Or did. Lots of that changed in the last few years.

One thing that I don't like is when in some parks other campers assume we are snobs because of our coach. Or because we aren't outside all day. Quite often we're out sightseeing. Other times we just enjoy being inside. So please don't judge us because of what we live in. And I won't judge you for what you live in.

:) :) Well said. When we full-timed, we realized we could not sight-see every day, and we enjoyed kicking back and doing handwork or reading. I find it amazing when people knock those that stay in their RVs..........but don't knock their neighbors for staying in the house and not mowing their lawns...........

Since we sold the house and are living (not camping or weekending or vacationing) we wanted to be comfortable wherever we are. Our coach looks like it's new and many people can't believe it's 15 years old. But we keep it up just like we kept up the house and lawn.

It sure seems funny that KOA or Passport America and Good Sam's do not care how old your RV is as long as you pay the membership fee every year!

Several years ago (10 I think) I bought a 1984 Winnie Chifton 24' motorhome. What a wreck inside. Anyhow, my nieghbor and I spent about a year gutting the coach and completely restoring it. Then I did the ouside. Had the entire coach painted. New tires, losts of engine work, etc. The coach only had 51,000 miles on a big block 454.

The point is I ran into the 10 years rule a couple of times. However, when the person at the counter walked outside, at my request, they were blown away and let me in. Many times I would have fellow campers walk over to say "We use to have one just like that" and we would talk for hours.

Be proud of your 1990 coach. YOU own it.

I sold it to my neighbor last year and bought a sharp 2002 with only 15k miles on her. He loves it and I loved his check.

I guess one of my trailers is approaching that ten year thing pretty soon as well... Its suppose to be 2005 but the VIN # plate probably says 2004 hehe...My trailer looks as good as the new ones.. Would definitely bother me if I couldn't bring it into the sites... Rules are rules I guess...

Ellie Mae (Donna Douglas) is going to turn 80 years old in September. Good luck with that no swim suit requirement. :)

The reason for the 10 year rule is more of a legal wording reason. As already said what those RV parks are doing is not trying to keep out older motorhomes, they are trying to keep out the people who would cause problems in an RV park. You can't have an RV park policy that says, "No bums allowed" or "No dirty junk heaps of a motorhome allowed" or "No trailer trash allowed." It's so much more politically correct to say no rigs over 10 years old allowed. So then when the 60's school bus conversion full of hippies shows up, they can say sorry, rules don't allow rigs over 10 years old. When a 20 year old Bounder shows up and the manager has a chance to look it and see you're not a van load of hippies, then they can waive the rule and let you in.

I remember years ago when I was much younger I went to a night club with friends and was told I couldn't come in with my leather jacket on. It was a nice dress type leather jackets and I had to go put it back in the car. The point wasn't that they didn't want leather jackets in the bar, it was that they didn't want bikers in the bar. Instead of saying no bikers allowed, they had a policy that said no denim and leather allowed and that kept the bikers out.

I hope after all the work restoring my ole babe, they don't put their nose up at me!
