9.6 volts at battery plugged in

Ok my lights are real dim and I only have 9.6 volts at the battery I went to fuse box and only have 9.6 volts there also is converter my issue all fuses are good.
  • Hslag,

Please tell us what rig you have (batteries, converter, plugged into 15 amp/30 amp/50 amp, etc).

Clearly you DO have a problem. Could be battery, could be converter, could be 120 VAC supply to converter.......
  • Are you connected to shore power? Does the AC unit or microwave work?
If connected to shore power and the ac/microwave work, it could be a converter issue. Check to see if it has reverse polarity fuses. Use a volt meter to check converter output.
  • If on shore power converter has failed and batteries are drained
(OR AC to converter is tripped and batteries are drained)

If not on shore power batteries are drained and need charged ASAP
  • It is on shore power it is tplugged into 30 amp service.converoris a7300 series and I do not see no reset on the unit it had been working until battery was stolen and we used camper for about 6 months without a battery.also I am using 1 battery and yes AC and fridge works fine
  • Sounds like replacement lower section is in the works.

  • Battery was stolen......
Are you sure you have the new battery connected correctly? Reversing the polarity will blow the big (30A?) fuses in the converter.

Power converters come in many flavors (makes and models) but only 3 styles
1: built into the power center (hard wired)
2: Stand alone but hard wired
3: Stand alone but plug in

If you have type 3 (I do) then be aware I have a nasty habit of unplugging the thing by accident

If you have the first Progressive Industries 4600 series (match the last two digits) replaces ONLY the converter part. no need to replace the whole panel

IN the case of the 2nd (or 3rd) type.. Make it the 9200 series or the 9100 with the optional Charge Wizard (Whichever works out better for you)

BUT FIRST.... before you reach for your credit card, Check the fuses.. There will normally be 1,2 or 3 30 amp fuses on the converter (Except for type 1) or usually the right hand most fuses on the power center for the first type.

TO REPLACE first unplug. then wait 5 mintes at least then replace all the fuses (if one blows the others will too) then plug back in.

You might also have a shorted battery.
