Have Burner Will Travel (subject)...JOB: Boiling lobsters stinks. A 2-gallon pot takes freakin' forever to boil on a regular burner. Ever note how a Coleman stove sounds? The burner sounds like a torch and without a single doubt the flame is way way more intense even though the burner is smaller than a stovetop burner. Outdoor stove burners are way large for more output. Mr. Picky here wants a freestanding single burner that has a standard pipe connection, compact size that sounds like an enraged F-104 during takeoff (like a Coleman burner).Any ideas?

I think you're looking for one of the small burners on a stand like a turkey fryer. I have a smoker set up that can be broken down to just the burner and stand. It will boil a big pot of water without problem. Lo0bsters are scarce up here but corn is abundant. I sometimes am enlisted to boil a lot of corn for gatherings and the burner does a great job.

I remember a scout leader from some time ago (I was a boy scout) who had constructed a big stove based around a residential water heater burner. I think he had gone to a few successively smaller sizes of orifices before the output got down to something sort of reasonable. It certainly was fast at heating a big pot of whatever.The Coleman burners probably sound loud because they're running at a higher pressure than the RV stove burner. It may not be a heat output question.

Warm water Slippers are yucky to me. I have eaten so much lobster I eat it infrequently these days.

Oh well ... guess I was all wrong about lobster being a "cold water" crustacean.

According to some of the posts earlier it looks like some lobsters come out of waters so warm that propane need not be wasted. No boiling may be needed ... with Sushi style being the only cooking that's needed. ;)

Michoacan "Tropical" Lobster...

Dive down 15' and you'll find yourself in water temps in the low 60's. Full wetsuit time including hood and gloves.

The pot isn't giant size. But I want to heat 2-gallons in under 4-minutes. For corn too. I wanted to try and avoid hauling a four pound burner. I have adjustable regulators to 10-lbs. And drills for increasing register intake. A freakin' coleman burner puts out three-times the heat.

I believe wok burners are even more powerful than turkey fryers. Wok burners are commonly available at well over 100,000 BTU/hr. I'm not sure how many BTUs Mex is looking for.

I second the Coleman Stove suggestion, with one caveat. The old ones from the 1960's and 1970's would roar on the larger burner. Great for extra-large pots for canning, etc. I have a newer one that is not nearly so robust. (Sorry, I don't have the model numbers - they're in my workshop which is on the back of the property, 50 yards away through 2 feet of snow.)

I you want to boil water fast......

You can get some monster propane burners (Look or turkey fryers)

But a common Coleman Stove (the kind that uses liquid fuel) will make heat like you won't believe, in fact for many purposes you can not turn it down far enough.

if it's a big pot get the two burner kind (post must cover both burners) just fire them both up.. CAUTION, these can MELT steel if it runs dry.

Search for "wok burner" on Ebay. Lots of inexpensive high-BTU-output choices.
