- 64thunderboltExplorer IIWow I'm not sure if I learned anything or not. Wiah I had popped some corn though
- Gale_HawkinsExplorerI do not like the price but I like AGM for many other reasons.
- tplifeExplorerGale, buy an AGM and remember the caps for the next generation. The extra 20-50% you spend for a 21-st Century battery will come back when you realize how much longer they deliver the Ah/$. See you then, LOL...AGMs won't be cheaper/battery as they cost more to manufacture...You're being funny, right? :)
- Gale_HawkinsExplorerPicked up an ES14AHBS at WM tonight ($90)the same 12 amp battery in a tad wider/shorter battery was $17 cheaper at $73 but with the Polaris battery rack I had no option after getting home with the cheaper format. It is currently on the charger after the fill and setting for one hour. This one stated pop on the caps BEFORE charging.
I think when AGM's become the common choice for OEM use they may get a bit cheaper or not inflat as fast as other things. Love the power without the mess. - landyacht318ExplorerSears DHP/Odyssey batteries want a 0.4c recharge rate when deeply cycled. That single group 31 needs 40 amps initial bulk current.
I had an extensive discussion with an Odyssey engineer about this. Not meeting the 0.4C recharge rate on their deeply cycled batteries will shorten life and usable capacity.
Certainly not a good solar battery - pnicholsExplorer IIOf all the batteries offered at the Sears site, these are about the only two models I'd want in our RV:

In general conditions the AGM design will charge faster , take more abuse from depleting their charge , and actually work well with stock charging systems in most trucks / cars .
I deplete them pretty good when we jumper to the 2 RV batts for dry camping .
I paid $ 140 each for Exide Edge AGM group 78 ( GM bolt terminals ) at BiMart .
Made in the USA by Exide .... - westendExplorerI guess Sears DieHard Advanced Gold AGM have that same doubling of life--"It has an estimated two times greater cycle life, which means improved performance and extended life".
I would go out on a limb and say that a very well made AGM (perhaps pure lead)that wasn't discharged more than 25% and was charged adequately, would out last a similar sized FLA battery under the same circumstances. I don't think it would be double, maybe more towards 10-30%.
It's tough to figure the comparison accurately because the construction is different between the two and there's also a quality range of both types. I give the AGM the nod because of the VRLA. Does all that sound right? - red31ExplorerDouble the Life, Half the Worries
If the best battery is the one you never have to think about, the MT7 AGM reigns supreme. Built for both cranking and deep-cycle applications, the MT7 AGM boasts four times the deep-cycling performance of conventional AGM batteries, has double the expected lifespan and is backed by a 4-year, free-replacement warranty. Peace of mind comes easy, thanks to the remarkable reliability of this go-the-distance powerhouse.
