Blue plastic water lines -- OK to use PVC cement?

My trailer has the blue/red plastic water lines. I assume these are PVC like in my old trailers, but they use a clamp connection.

Is it OK to repair these using PVC joints and cement? I've never worked with these before, and my last trailer had (I think) plain white PVC pipe.

Thanks for any and all advice.

  • There are two different types of tool and rings. Most do it yourself guys buy the cinch ring tool. Cheaper and works on all sizes. The crimp rings/tool are more expensive and you need a different tool or adapter for each size.
Sharkbite type of fittings work but if you use it often the tool and cinch rings are the way to go.

I would not use crimps. I have previously used push type fittings in both plastic version and brass. I liked the plastic ones better. Here is an example. They are available at most big box hardware and Ace hardware stores.
    Push type PEX fittings

I also like the push/snap fittings

Just make sure PEX is cut clean, square and NO BURRS

  • You can get a pex pipe cutter for under 10 dollars. It will give you a nice square cut
  • Something like a sharp box knife or razor blade work well and give the Pex a sharp, square edge. Best not to use anything that will crush it.
  • Aaaahh! Thanks everyone. I'll pick up the crimp tool and rings from the hardware store today.

Is there a special tool needed to cut PEX? Or can I use my tin snips?
  • x2 different kind of plastic, not compatible with PVC "cement" ... there are solvent welding techniques and fittings for PEX but why bother?

Use the barbed hose-like fittings that easily attach with an inexpensive clamping system, or gasket sealed push-on fittings.
  • Can't glue PEX. Have to use either the crimp rings, or go with a Sharkbite fitting.

What are you trying to repair?
  • No, it's PEX. You will need to use the right fittings and clamps. Or SharkBite fittings.
