Countertop ice maker wont stop

Oddest thing...?

My countertop ice maker wont stop making ice while on inverter or inverter generator. It stops just fine at home on grid power.

Same water used in both situations.

Somehow the simulated sinewave from my pure sign Magnum inverter or little blue generator must fool the optical sensor on the ice bin? Or is there a simpler reason?
  • Shading the sensor didn't help, nor did shutting down the cell booster.

Wa8yxm's suggestion is the easiest solution.

    Thanks all!

Figure out how much water it takes to fill the thing with ICE,, then put only that amount of water in.. It will stop when it runs dry.. Or rather it will slow way down (Since the ice melts and drips back into the water tray)

LED lighting right above the window in the ice machine ?
maybe a location change ? or cover the window ?

Good idea about lighting differences. At home its running in the kitchen, but camping its outdoors on a little table. Maybe the ambient light from outdoors is overwhelming the sensor. Ill put some cardboard on the little window tomorrow.

As far as radio equipment, just a cell booster antenna about 10ft away... Maybe the microwaves are causing malfunction? Doubt it but...?
  • both my previous 'ice n easy' and this Emerson maker work fine from the Trip-lite inverter or the champion generator, no problems with stopping if full

do you have any 'radio' equipment or other electronics that could be causing interference ?

that sensor is going to be on Dc volts, should not be a Hz/freq problems

  • My guess is the ice maker circuitry requires a neutral ground bond and you don't have one on your genny or inverter. Many home furnaces also require the n/g bond for there electronics.

Nor the generator. Hmmm.. I wonder if this is a voltage issue. Something else running at the same time? Does this device require much power?
  • Usually a small temp sensor placed near the top of the ice tray. When it gets cold it turns things off.
  • There is a small metal temp sensor at the top center of the ice tank bin. When the ice reaches it the control board stops the process. If it works at home the true sine inverter must not be be very true. That being said my buddy ran his on a modified sine inverter for years. It worked fine even though the manual said to use only true sine power.
