How do I level a dual axle trailer???
I thought I was fairly seasoned, having camped 150+ nights in our single axle trailer. However, I put on quite the show for the neighbors during my first outing with the new, 2-axle trailer. I also went from 15' to 26'.
I'm better than the average Joe when backing trailers, and the longer trailer has proven to be easier in many ways. But this site was a tight one, and took me at least 4 attempts to make the turn in without hitting trees. All the while, 3 sets of neighbors watched intently.
I finally got it into the site, and realized that the level was off a pretty good bit. 4 of my yellow blocks!. When I went to set out the blocks, I realized that the tires were too close together to allow me to build 2 ramps. I tried without ramps, but the block slid in the gravel. I then tried a ramp for one and not the other...no go. Finally, I ended up with what you see here.
I built two ramps in front of both wheels, rolled the first wheel over the first ramp and up the second.
It was frustrating, and I never did get it up on 4 blocks. I thought we could live with it, but we felt the angle the whole weekend. It even kept me from sleeping well.
All in all, I looked like a rookie all over again. :o
Now that I'm home, I wonder if putting one tire up on 4 blocks would have done it? Do you guys shim under both axles? Or, will one axle move the whole floor. I could have experimented, but was loosing my cool.
Any tips? Besides find a better site!
