KwiKee Again need - UPDATE STEP FIXED

bad news is my controller is potted
Good news
i tracked the problem to a broken wire for the door sensor 'reed switch'
drilled a new hole in the step well and ran new wires

if the circuit fails/breaks
the step won't extend...if its extended it retracts and will not extend

retracted is the 'fail safe' mode for a bad door sensor circuit

I've repaired a few of the controller boards over the years
Repair cost of about $30 compared to a new board makes good sense to me
Things change if they are epoxy encapsulated

I had this same problem with my controller on a 1996 GBM. I could not find a replacement. But did find a company that would rebuild them for about $100 plus shipping. What they replace is the relay's inside. He told me with good soldering skills I could replace it my self which I did for a cost of about $4.00. If you remove the controller and look at the two relays inside and see one that is burned/melted that would be the one to replace. If you search gjac kwickee steps you will find the details of the process and part numbers for the relay.

When mine went out on the '96 I found out they no longer made that control unit. If it's white, the best you can do is keep an eye on E-bay for a used one.

What I ended up doing was hard wiring a two way rocker switch ($8) into the system and got rid of the control box all together. Never had a problem after that other than remembering to put them up before driving off. :S

I have a controller I don't use but it is a pn 909510000 revision 3, Date Code 5L31. It came off a triple step. If it can work let me know.

Step kit 909770000 replaced 11/11

You've probably checked the ground? As a last resort, you could have an electrical engineer or tech open up the controller, see if he or she can identify the problem and fix it. Some auto electrical shops offer this service. This happened to me. The controller for the wipers went out. There was no replacement available. A tech looked at it and found a burned-out resister which he replaced and I was able to put the controller back in service. Good luck with your repairs.

got power to the controller

motor works IF connected directly to 12vdc, step will extend or retract ( reverse power leads )

no previous appearance of any problem, just suddenly would not work this morning
worked fine yesterday and last night

looking for a cross referenced replacement controller

will pull motor tomorrow/Friday and check for binding etc

How do U know its the controller & not just the motor? What are U'r problem symptoms?
