Hi,

You hit the nail on the head. We have flexible, thin-film solar cells. This isn't as efficient as your mono-crystalline panels, but for the surface area, it is about getting something on the surface and converting photons into electrons.
I've wanted roll-out awnings with solar panels. Not just the normal one, but on each slide-out as well. Maybe even a dedicated one that, but can be pulled out up to 30-40 feet so if one is boondocking in the desert, there is a lot of power coming in... plus it gives useful shade for storage. The awning wouldn't even have to be on the top, it could be lower down... it would lose the benefit of being shelter, but it will would provide electricity.
I've even seen window film that works as a solar panel. It likely is only a few watts... but even a few puny watts can at least fight parasitic discharge when a unit is in storage. - pianotunaNomad IIIHi,

Now, I am seriously jealous. :B - SalvoExplorerHey, I'm on vacation! My technical analysis is limited these days whether to have some Hornitos straight or with some papaya juice.

That, hopefully was and is the point of posting the link. Here's my question "What are/is the primary difference(s) in the waveform generated by a PSW inverter versus a good quality inverter generator VERSUS any inverter generator?" Heck for that matter what is the range expected (or not) of THD for so-called pure sine wave equipment? My ill experiences with third and fifth wave harmonics make me quite skeptical. This is why I chose a KATO generator over a less expensive LIMA or Stamford. There is a woeful lack of performance data out there. Ask a manufacturer to demonstrate a value of THD when coupled to an inductor and they act like you're asking them the color of their girlfriend's lingerie.
- SalvoExplorerGood to see kids still going into analog engineering. He really missed the point in the differences between sine, msw, and square. Yes, there are harmonics, but there's a bigger impact than that. The sine outputs a peak of 170V. The msw may have a peak of 145V (just guessing) and a square wave outputs only 120V peak. That has a huge impact on peak charging electronics, like the infamous PD converter.
Sal - Canadian_RainbiExplorerThanks Mex! I can't fully follow all the details but very interesting all the same. I've saved the file for later!
- wa8yxmExplorer IIII have used some PWM synthisers they can indeed mimic most any wave form you like and a very simple filter can smooth out the wave so it it truly a pure ____ wave (Fill in the blank with several different wave forms, depending on what you want).
In fact, it's not all that far removed from technology we all use nearly every day, Digital audio, (Be it televison or CD/DVD/BlueRay/Computer/MP3)
For digital audio (Audio can be anything from a pure sine wave (Flute) to some very complex waveforms (Vocal Cords, (Meaning multi-part vocal) or some strings or hammered instruments) and the way Digital works is to sample it say 44,000 times a second.. Then they use a multi bit encoder (Say 65,535 levels) and store, then play back later by converting back to audio.
This back conversion can be done two ways. Either bigger bytes cause STRONGER signals (higher voltage) or it can be down by varying the pulse with.
And it is rather hard to tell a CD recording from LIVE.. (Epically if I record it with my "Ears" (Binural Microphones) and you use Cans (Headphones) to listen. - Every inverter will have a horror story if you keep searching.
I have a small wagan as my first inverter. Still works fine but only as a back up or loaner now.. - SteveAEExplorerGood thesis, thanks for sharing.
