Exactly what will happen if someone puts the "wrong" fuel in the "wrong" container? Will it explode? Will it catch fire? The answer is "No, none of these things will happen because the only thing that makes the "wrong" container the "correct" container is the color of the container". To stop someone from putting fuel in a container because of the color of the container is just plain Silly, with a capitol S.
My red cans have “gasoline” molded into them and my yellow ones have “diesel”. It’s not just the color; it’s the labeling,
To answer Bob’s question: difficulty is relative. If someone needs a little diesel immediately but doesn’t have a yellow can on hand it could be a big pain. If someone only needs a little diesel one time, buying a purpose-built diesel can is a waste of money.
I have multiple of each type because I have machines that use enough of both to need it.
