Any gas station allowing this will be in serious trouble when someones milk jug full of gasoline blows up and burns their car or house down.

You might have gotten away with it as there is rarely any staff out at the pumps but I can tell you with certainty that it's not legal to use milk jugs.

Reality is it's a safety concern. As someone gave an example of putting gas in a kerosene jug and then blew up the kerosene heater. Sure you have less risk putting diesel in a gas jug but once they establish approved colors, you don't give people lots of options because someone will mess up sooner or later in an unsafe manner.

Now I've truly seen it all......The fuel police lol.

According to your profile, you pull a decent sized 5th wheel with a fairly recent F350, yet you seem very concerned with the cost of a gas can, as you brought up the cost multiple times. We go thru quite of bit if DEF at work and I've been known to flush and fill those containers before going on a road trip. I never intend to use them, just for road side fuel emergencies which has never happened. When I get home I just pour it in my tank.

So my diesel cans are clear and inside a box. California come arrest me now.

Use the yellow can aproved for diesel and make everyone happy..

I had to use Red plastic can to store Diesel fuel for my Espar heater as its the only size that fit into storage compartment in my TC..

However when buying diesel I bought extra Yellow can for it..trying to break the rules is not a good idea

Gasoline being more corosive must be in Red can only..Diesel is not as dangerous so yelow or red can should be ok...
Still spending few bucks on Yellow can shouldnt make you broke..
