- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerOooooooo Richard, you cracked the Onan secret code...
Make everything different and absurdly complicated. No one in their right mind would try to produce generic brand Onan parts.

A 1.2 megawatt generator. Get this, seventeen current pick-up sensors. Onan sells to the military at near cost, then for the next ten years makes 3X more profit on replacement and breakdown parts than they would have on the generator at list price. Not my favorite company. Only the original 6.5NH with stator starter winding was worth considering. Onan/Generac = Cousins. - RLS7201Explorer II

Onan does NOT have RV Carb parts or kits. At least since 1993. You have to buy the complete carb assbly. OLDER RV Onans, you can still get carb rebuild kits. Doug
Doug,
Early 2003, I purchased a needle & float kit for my 1995 Onan Marquis 7000 NHM for the outrageous fee of $35.00.
The float had cracked.
Richard - coolbreeze01ExplorerCan you tell where the float is letting gas in? Searched Onan carb float, several show up.
- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerI use a gram scale to measure and compare the weight of nitrile floats. If the float weight is considerably more than a new float, I will pass a flame over the float. If it ignites, extinguish and do whatever it takes to replace it. If it does not ignite, I will "bake" it at 175 degrees for a couple of hours. Care must be taken not to exceed this temperature. This will evaporate a great majority of the hydrocarbon added weight.
Don't even THINK about doing this with a brass or other hollow chamber float. The float will be rendered a weapon of mass destruction. Think hand grenade. TEXAS wrote:

update: Looks like no kit available. Float is plastic.
ordered a new carburetor from ASAP online
Don't know who told you no kit available. Float kits are all over the place.
Onan does NOT have RV Carb parts or kits. At least since 1993. You have to buy the complete carb assbly. OLDER RV Onans, you can still get carb rebuild kits. Doug- Maine-stayExplorerMy 2015 Onan 5500 has the same problem, I called Cummins in Ohio and was told that no parts are available for that carb. Went through two local repair shops and they got the same answer. I sealed the float with Seal-all and its holding for now. I am now trying to find a carb that uses the same float but have had no luck yet. Ill be dammed if I'm going to spend 300 dollars to get a 6 dollar float. If any one has a float or has located one that works please share that info. Thanks.
- midnightsadieExplorer IIthats a great idea ,no reason to buy new .theres ways to do this.
- Chum_leeExplorerAs midnightsadie says, soldering a a brass float is a workable solution if you can find the hole(s). So is replacing the carburetor, although easier and more expensive. I may catch some heat for this, but, I have repaired non floating air filled plastic floats before by pricking them with a pin, draining the contained fuel and dipping the entire float in phenolic resin, twice. You have to readjust the float height because the float gets heavier but it works and the price is right. It doesn't work well with solid floats that have become fuel saturated.
