Overhead lights not working in 2006 Fleetwood pop-up

I’m having some trouble getting the overhead lights working in my 2006 Fleetwood Element pop-up and I’m really hoping someone can help me troubleshoot.

The 2 overhead lights are not working for shore or battery power when everything else seems to be. When powered by shore power, all of the outlets work and the outside porch light works too. When powered by the battery, the outside porch light (run off the charger/converter along with overhead lights) works. So, the converter seems to be at least partially working but there is no power getting to the overhead lights.

There is a wire connector at the rear left lift post and I’ve confirmed that no power is getting to that connector. I’ve also confirmed that everything seems to be working okay after that connector because I was able to get the lights on by temporarily supplying power directly from the battery to connector (and bypassing the charger/converter box).

All of the fuses are working and all breakers are on and not tripped.

What could be going on here? Are there any fixes besides attempting to replace what seems to be at least a partially working charger/converter?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

  • Thanks to all for the help. It was in fact a faulty switch. It should be an easy fix and I'm thrilled to not have to get into anything more significant. Cheers.
  • When we had our Hiwall Fleetwood popup the kill switch was mounted on one of the end walls so when the beds were slide out it would push the switch in. The switch was activated by a metal piece that was attached to the bed so it took me a while to find it.
  • On our old popup we had, the same thing happened. The kill switch failed and I got a new one from the dealer.

The kill switch on ours was in the folding galley. When we folded the sink down, the switch plunger popped up an cut the power to the lights. When we folded the sink back up, the sink unit pushed the switch down an we ha lights.

There are two types of kill switches, Normally open (NO) and Normally closed (NC) depending on your wiring arrangement. Take the old switch out (if it's bad) and with you to the parts department to compare it with available ones, because the parts department usually will have a few bins of generic switches.

Somewhere between your converter/fuse panel and the lift post is a switch that will automatically turn the power off to the roof. This is to prevent the HOT lights from being left on and burning the canvas or bedding when the roof is lowered.
It or the wiring is broken in that area, since you have already confirmed that the overhead lights work when bypassing it.

    Thanks, Beverly&Ken.

I don't know where this switch could be since I don't recall seeing it and there is very little distance between the panel and connector, but I will look as soon as I get home tonight.

I think there is some sort of kill switch under the galley. This would not physically be between the panel and post...but could this be the same switch you are referring to?

Thanks again. I really appreciate the input.
