Several years ago I purchased a Yahama EF2000iS generator which we used when camping in areas w/o power and water...A while back I installed a Progressive Industries HW30c EMS. I haven't used the trailer with the generator since the EMS was installed but recently I found out from Progressive Industries that the lifetime warranty on their HW EMS system is voided if used with the Yahama EF2000iS generator. Even putting the EMS remote in the bypass mode will void the warranty. Wish I had known this earlier BUT I DIDN'T.. Anyone else delt with this problem? How did you solve it! I have a camping trip to an area with no services later this summer and will require the generator. As I see it the only way to continue is either (1) remove the HW system and splice or replace the power cable from the outside connection to the power dist panel, then buy a portable EMS system or (2) just chance it and hope the HW EMS system doesn't fail hopefully not while camping. Thoughts?

Progressive Industries has had this Yamaha EF2000iS warning posted on their website for years and if I owned one I'd definitely not be ignoring their advice. The solution for those with a portable EMS is to simply not use it when using the genset but for those with a hard wire version the solution is likewise quite simple - just add connectors on either side so it can be removed at any time by simply unplugging it. I have an EMS-HW30C and installed it in just this manner - a series of 10 pics starts here.

I would still just use bypass mode. Just don't overload the Yamaha trying to run the air conditioner. I see no worry to charge the battery or make coffee.

Bypass doesn't remove the unit entirely from the circuit. Progressive's reason for not using their EMS with the Yamaha EF2000iS has nothing to do with overloading but that this genset's waveform output distorts under certain conditions and it's that distortion that destroys the EMS. I'd remove it to avoid any chance of issues.
Maybe we need to know what the definition of start up current is. I assumed it was the start up of an appliance with a high surge requirement.

Or is it just during the start up of the generator? So give it 20 seconds to get running before you plug in.

That's a great idea if you have no concept of honesty and don't mind spending the time to swap out the units.
Even if I ignore the integrity part. I would not want to deliberately break my surge just so I could spend the time and effort to swap it out. These are hard wired units not plug and play.
If you want to make an effort to avoid the problem. Put plugs on the existing unit so you can physically remove it when using the generator.
It will take just as much effort as swapping it out for a replacement.

By all the things I have read on here, Progressive is a stand up company that stands behind their products and never leaves their customers holding the short straw. In this case they are telling their customers not to do it. I am shocked by the people that say do it anyway and f*** the company; people that I thought were made of good stuff.

I guess I shouldn't be shocked by the lack of scruples.

You can also send it in for repairs and pay the cost.
But with basic use I don't think OP will have any issue.

We just had a thread about this sequence. Get the gen run up first, then plug in. Disconnect the load first, then shut down. Basic!

My Honda EU3000is will start in Eco in the cold, but if I plug in my 100 amp charger right then the Honda conks out (motor quits). I have learned the hard way, to get it running first with Eco off, let it warm up, then plug in the 100 amper, and then switch to Eco on.

Exactly my thinking. Instead of publishing an excuse to dilute the warranty, they should have fixed the thing so it wouldn't fail. In my high tech job there were always two ways to fix design errors: (1) Do it the right way, or (2) Document it as a feature. Guess which one the engineers favored, and which on the management favored?

Interesting how forum pundits are always those quick to criticize without having any personal experience with these devices. :W

As noted, Progressive or TRC EMS units are not power filters, are not designed to protect anything from power "variations", in this case a non-sinusoidal waveform. Rather, they're designed to detect errors in power distribution - miswiring that creates open ground, open neutral, reverse polarity situations, low / high voltage, incorrect frequency, etc, and if any of these errors are detected then disconnect power from the trailer. What Progressive is warning about is the Yamaha EF2000iS's propensity for generating this non-sinusoidal waveform under some conditions, which is beyond the scope of the EMS manufacturer to control but likewise apparently beyond the scope of some to understand. :R
