Replace Schwintek slide roller?

Yep - weatherstrip.

I went out with a flashlight and glasses and DW moved the slide a couple of inches. The other three rollers rolled and this one didn't - the slide slid.

I was able to remove the weatherstrip (what to replace it with?) and the roller rolled fine.

Now I have to repair the damage it did to the 'wood' base of the slide.

You can cut the rubber wipe seal by the roller and then use LONG needle nose pliers to pull the wrapped rubber out from the roller. I HAVE done this before also. I doubt your roller is bad, it just has that rubber torn and caught and needs removed. You will have the slightly raise the room to relieve the tension on the roller to get the rubber removed. Raising the room that 1/4 inch will not harm the Slide side mechanism's. Doug

Do you have a Forest River RV? There have been some issues with the main slides tearing the Darco wrap although your picture shows something other than the Darco.

Depending on where the slide is at any given time on opening or closing one or both of my rollers will skip and then begin to turn again. I suspect that that is caused by the bottom not being perfectly flat.

When I looked at this yesterday and the damage to the wood on the underside of the slide, I thought that what I saw was a seized roller where the roller material had been peeled off as the slide slid across the non-turning roller.

When I got out there today with a flashlight, I could see that the material between the roller and the slide bottom is the rubber seal.

At the moment I don't know if the roller is seized or not. I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and try to bring in the slide a bit to see if the roller turns.

Last thing I want to happen is to get the slide only partly open and then be unable to move it!!

Yes, you can shear off the old roller mount screws. THINK about it. HOW do you install 1 or 1.5 inch screws when you barely have 1.5 inch clearance? How do you get any screwdriver (angled or not) to drive the screws in? You CANNOT. As I have had to do this before. Doug

I have a Schwintek system on my bedroom slide out. One roller would continually grab the rubber seal. Looked just like yours. I lifted the slide with a board and reached in and cut that section of rubber off. The end caps, as Doug said, are pressed on. They can be difficult to remove but a screwdriver and hammer should drive one off to allow removal. Is there something wrong with the roller or is it because it grabs the rubber?

I just got a reply from Lippert: they have a replacement roller including a support that has horizontal screws. I guess the idea is to grind off the existing screw heads, pull out the original roller and slide in the new one. Screws would go behind the rubber gasket in the original photo.

I guess I'll order a couple. None of the other rollers is showing this problem but it's probably just a matter of time.

Surely the clearances on the slide aren't so close that I couldn't jack it up 1/4" to put in a new roller?

The OEM installs the rollers. You can jack up the room just a 1/4 inch, but you risk damaging the side Rack system and gears. The rollers are screwed to the floor using at least 1.5 inch screws. Why do you need to replace the roller? Doug
