Slideout fails to retract, turn motor and it starts.

For the last few months if the slideout has been sitting open for a week or so it won't retract.

What I noticed, when I opened up the access panel in the Coroplast all I have to do is rotate the motor shaft a half turn or so and the slide start up like nothing is wrong.

Most forum posts about a slide motor not starting have to do with the relay/breaker failure, this issue seems more like the motor, almost as if the brushes (if this type of motor has them) are losing contact or may be dirty.

Anyone agree? I'm thinking my next step might be to remove the motor, if its an easy job and take a look

Thanks

Ron W.

  • Op back again...well looking into this further it really seems to me that the only thing that can cause this problem is a defective motor. The failure to retract has happened a number of times since posting and the resolution is the same, just rotate the motor shaft a few degrees in any direction and off it goes.

Looking at all the documentation from the Lipert website they want you to take out/replace the whole assembly not just the motor.

So, has anyone had experience in just replacing the motor? A cursory look shows that the motor is held in place only by its attachment point to the slideout lead screw. Sort of like the motor assembly that moves the front jacks.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Had the same issue with my steps.> your motor has developed a "Dead Spot" now in the case of my steps which have hard stops I was able to "Re-Index" the motor so it stops on a different spot (basically I opened the trans and moved a gear a couple notches) Do not know if you can do that with your slide, but you may wish to replace the motor.
  • Hot wire the motor first, eliminate all other electrical, then replace the motor
  • I agree with donn0128. Likely a dead spot. Had an electric fuel pump like that one time. Would not run. Pulled it out and jumpered across battery to test and it ran. Put it back in and would not run. Pulled it and jumpered it again and it ran. Put it back in and no go. Lots of hair pulling at that point. Pulled again, jumpered it, and IT DID NOT RUN. Ah hah!! Turned the shaft a little and it ran. Dead spot. New fuel pump.
  • Dead spot on the armarure is the likely cause. Rebuild or replace are your only choices.
