What checks for over/under transient conditions, delays restart of AC, etc.?
bumpy - westendExplorerYou guys have me convinced that an EMS protector is necessary.
For the most part, when camping, I avoid the RV parks like the plague. That means I'm existing on solar and inversion (making my own power), connected at home, connected at a friend's property, or at a primitive campground.
The risk comes into play when parking in an RV campground where other users are hammering an older, ill-designed campground utility system, it seems. The bad news is that it takes just one event to make life miserable.
I may buy an isolation transformer and cover even more possibilities. - Reddog1Explorer III guess I shop in a poor neighborhood.
Converter $250.00 to $300.00 my converter $190 Iota - DLS-55 (55 Amp Power Converter)
Microwave $100.00 to $150.00 Mine - $55 - Sunbeam 0.9 cu ft Microwave, White
12v TV $175.00 to $300.00 Mine $130 - Sceptre 19" Class LED-LCD 720p 60Hz HDTV with DVD Combo, (1.67" ultra-slim)
A surge suppressor $175.00 to $300.00 Mine $80 - RV Surge Protectors
I did purchase the $80 surge suppressor. Circuit Tester Checks

Anyone out there use this product? Good/bad? Any other good options?
surg protector
Yes I have the 50 amp version and don't plug in with out it. Tried to get buy without one but ended up having to replace the circuit board on washer, it was more than the surge guard was.

You might not depending upon what you want to protect and how.
Why would I need more than the SSP30?
Your basic device protects against surges - as in high transient voltages or surges.
The more advanced units protect against over/under voltage, reverse polarity, open neutral, etc.
For years I did not have any protection. But in 2004 with a rig with expensive electronics I installed a PI HW50C. Dam* good thing I did as shortly after I encountered 160V on a 30A pedestal and the unit protected the rig until I could unplug. 160V lets the smoke out of electronics. - 4aSongExplorer

How much does it cost to replace a converter, MW and/or TV?
Based on your question, my guess on a ballpark price excluding labor would be around:
Converter $250.00 to $300.00
Microwave $100.00 to $150.00
12v TV $175.00 to $300.00
A surge suppressor $175.00 to $300.00 - AllegroDNomadHow much does it cost to replace a converter, MW and/or TV?
- 4aSongExplorerLet me give it a try, I hope this will help explain the difference in the units.
The link to the chart below can be used to compare the differences between the two Progressive Industry models.
The PT30C offers better protection than its little brother - the SSP30 - but for 2 1/2 time the cost. The more pricier surge protectors EMS-PT30C protect against higher levels (Joules and Amps) and does things like over/under voltage, open neutral, and reverse polarity protection, automatic reset, etc.
The Progressive Industries EMS-PT30C offer better protection than the SSP30.
Surge Protector Comparison - burlmartExploreri often see 'most newer rigs protect against'.
what do any of recently widely employed inverters by rvia rv builders have built-in to protect rigs from surge, polarity, hi/lo voltage, bad ground,...? - DustyRExplorer

Keep in mind, I am very ignorant on this subject.

If your unit requires a 50 amp hookup you will need the 50 amp surge protector. The plug-in is a different configuration.
