That's about our situation with our 2005 Itasca Spirit using only it's stock converter for over 10 years. However, I use AGM coach batteries in it that are spec'd to be floated at 13.5 - 13.8 volts - not the usual float spec of around 13.2 volts. My coach batteries are on the converter almost full time except when they're getting 14.XX volts from the engine alternator while traveling.

yes I have the trickle start, it take the volts from the coach and directs them to the starter battery to keep it a bit charged.

when we are using the MH it has of course been on shore power for several months!

I had a 98 bounder in storage hooked up. Two batteries went boom. Yes, exploded. Lack of water? Don't know. I now disconnect from the rig and hook up my battery MINDER desulphator and walk away.

Something else is wrong. Those batteries should last ten years.

I was told by a certain person on this site that my batteries are no good after being on solar for 13 yrs, go figure. But they still have power for everything in the mh. and they float at 13.4.

When the battery was kept on a "name brand" float charger, the average life expectancy was less than 2 years. When the charger was on a timer that only allowed about an hour of charge time per day, the life expectancy was over 3 years.

And in addition to that, the ambient temp where you're parked. I can say from experience that constant 13.8 volts works well in northern climates. I never had to add water over a couple of years. The same constant voltage in a warmer climate could very well boil the battery dry.

Well I guess we all need to disconnect our solar systems then...

But seriously.. If the OP has no Trik-L-Start (and 2006 is when they started adding them to the DP), then and a maintenance charger will take care of both IF you don't already have a 3-4 stage "Smart" charger
