RAM having adjustable spots is a waste of money as I set mine once to the furthest out position and never adjusted again.
My big concern for the FORD is the HOT transmission temps. I never see over about 172 pulling in near 100 degrees on long 6% grades. Most of the time I run 165-167.
Shows how dumb it is to do a leveling kit on a tow vehicle.
No denying it it has a ton of power!
I don't doubt the Aisin will do that if you say so ,the 68RFE will not running those long grades. I will see nearly 200 with my 68RFE , solo it runs a pretty consistent 172 , towing in hot weather it's a consistent 185-190 .
My 68RFE in my HO DRW never saw 200 unless it was stop and go. For sure it did not run as cool as my AISIN does.
Maybe the Ford at those temps gets better mileage??? - Grit_dogNavigator

Idk how heavy you tow or your gearing or tire size, nor have I towed in over 100deg weather. (But you’re in the SW? so maybe pulling heavy in 110deg plus and maybe low speeds like switchbacks?).
180-190 won’t hurt anything imo. However are you familiar with Rams issue with the thermostat and bypass on the cooler lines?
I’ve never had an issue with it sticking at all but apparently some do. Some to the point of it totally sticking closed and frying the trans with cooking oil temperatures…
By comparison I’ve never seen more than 175ish. But that’s only towing an 11-12k toyhauler, 4-5% grade, ambient in the 90s. Although 3.42s and 37s are probably working it like a larger trailer.
I replaced the thermostat block on the last service here with the straight thru block that eliminates the t stat bypass. No chance of sticking and cooking the trans now ever. What I noticed is it still never gets over low 170s but runs much cooler under light or no loads. And it takes much longer to get up into the 150-170 range. Which I like. Although I could imagine it being cold blooded in extremely cold winter temps. - cummins2014Explorer

I NEVER said it was overheated! FACT, transmission fluid lasts longer the cooler it's ran. Longer intervals on the change would be concerning to ME as I mentioned. Just my OPINION kids!!!
You probably know a lot more about this than I do but my understanding is that the viscosity of an oil is tested at 210 degrees. Non synthetic oils can't spend much time at temperatures much over that without breaking down. On the other hand synthetic oils can be designed to handle far more heat and still operate at their rated viscosity....well over 300 degrees without any ill effects. I don't know much about this but if running high transmission temperatures required more frequent change intervals wouldn't Ford specify more frequent change intervals? - HuntindogExplorer

My Dmax doesn't even have a tranny dipstick. It runs in the 160s. I like that. I bet a lot of Ford guys have temperture envy. That's why they are sensative about it.

- Grit_dogNavigator^But you have common sense and some understanding of vehicles.
Most of the yapping here is just speculation or folks who like to read what they wrote…. - 4x4ordExplorer IIII certainly wouldn't put just any old ATF in my Ford transmission but I have full confidence that if the transmission is designed to run hot, the synthetic fluid that is used in the transmission is designed to be able to provide the necessary lubrication at temperatures well over 230 degrees. If I've got the specified fluid in my transmission and no warning light is on I'm not going to be concerned regardless of whether or not I've got warranty on my truck. I guess hearing of all sorts of 10R140s burning up might change my attitude.

Refer to my post above. How is it a concern if it’s designed to run those temps?
Do we really think a 10k trailer on a grade overheated the trans on a new Super Superdoody?
I’m not even a Ford guy and I believe it had to be operating within its design parameters.
Other transmissions run at 200+ light load by design. It’s not a stretch to believe this one does too.
What’s funny is with all the clock watchers on this forum and I’m sure plenty of them driving new Powerstrokes, no one else is concerned or has mentioned trans temps on these trucks?
(But I don’t watch those YooToob reviews. If I want uninformed opinions I just come here to this forum….) - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIThose high temps with long change intervals would be concerning to me.
