2013 Ram 2500 Firestone airbags & stable loads….

I’m thinking of adding some firestone airbags on my truck.. I already have the stable loads, but when I tow my boat and have my camper on my truck it squats quite a bit… I also have a 5 inch exhaust installed on my truck and im wondering about clearance.. to me it looks like I have plenty of room under there.

How is the ride with the airbags when there is no load on the truck? DO you have to have a minimum PSI in the bags when not loaded? ? ?

  • Airlift bags have an internal jounce so you can completely air down the bags when not needed. The ones that do not have a jounce require about 5 PSI minimum to keep the bags from rubbing through themselves.

Some mounting locations replace the axle bump stop on the frame and sit between the frame and axle. Others mount to the outboard side of the frame and mount over the springs. The latter gives wider support of the axle and tends to not sway as much as ones that sit farther inboard.
  • Shouldn't be a problem mounting the bags, but you can see how they mount/where they mount in the directions for the kit you are buying. There are a couple of different mounting locations (at least for Fords), so I’d look at that as well.

The minimum pressure is 5 for most Firestone bags. I don’t think you’ll feel the difference at that low of pressure. I don’t.

If you keep the pressure at the level you use for the load, you’ll likely feel that it is a bit rougher ride empty.
