- NC_HaulerExplorerWhats funny is the winner for several years was the Chevy D/A with it's 3:73, beating the Ford and the Dodge/Ram, with Ram having the same 4:10 gearing, and Ram STILL got "whupped" by both the Ford and the Chevy....Now Ram wins "ONE", and the advantage is the 4:10 that lost it for them year after year:h
As Mowermech would state, "Such is life as we know it":B - Me_AgainExplorer IIII have owned a lot more Chevy trucks than Dodge trucks. All three of the big pickups are great with one exception. That is the injection pump! In my book RAM wins with the more reliable CP3 vs the newer CP4 on the GM and Ford. RAM also offers the best in class Aisin transmission option(for extra bucks) and has the best functioning exhaust brake. Chris
- larry_barnhartExplorerI don't see it as a disadvantage but what it is. I like our 3.73 and on the 2001 3500 dually we had the 4:10 and I liked that also. I was thinking towing a very heavy load the 4:10 would be the correct ratio and it looks like Dodge feels the same ya think!!! You always seem to think everybody is picking on what you like. Not from me. I had a dodge and own cummins stock so it is what it is.

Let's see jus2shy and larry barnhart said RAM's gears gave it advantage. Why did they not say that GM's "only 3.73" gears create a disadvantage.
Does Ford still offer gear choices?

chevman - Me_AgainExplorer IIIGM only offers 3.73 and some want to blame RAM for offering 3.42, 3.73 and 4.10's. You are blaming the wrong company. RAM's max towing is with 4.10's GM's with same same 3.73 all models. Their choice!

I tried flipping mine up on my 2014 and I don't think I can? Seems like the flashers would be obstructed if I did
Is the spot mirror vertical at the outer edge? If so they are towing mirrors.
Yes it is - larry_barnhartExplorer

Are the tires the exact same height?
I really don't care about who gets to the top first. More important is who can do it for hundreds of thousands of miles.
Stopping power with a load and exhaust braking are a big deal also.
When RAM lost it had 4:10 gears and GM had 3:73's.
I was thinking that test was a lighter load. I also feel when we tow up a mountain I don't race because another mountain is coming. I enjoy towing in mountains.
