- Perrysburg_DodgExplorerSo where are all the guys that where talking smack about the Ram VM 3.0 diesel. If I recall there are some Blue Oval fans that said the Ram 3.0 would not be as good as an Eco-Boost for towing. Then fuel mileage in the high twenties would not make up for the cost of the upgrade and fuel surcharge.
Then the fact that Nissan is going to have the 5.0 V-8 Cummins and smoke that little puny VM engine. Now how are they going to spin this one? :h
Oh that's right it's a Ford so it has to be the best....how stupid of me.
Now that, that is out of the way. Great news maybe GM might get the hint and bring something to the table also.
The little sheep ALWAYS fallow the Big Ram :p:B
Don - kw_00ExplorerDon't know, I like the idea of a 1/2 ton truck picking up a light duty Diesel engine. I think it would be good for sales similar to the ecoboost.

The V6 rumors from 2008 I think were possibly the 4.5 Navistar V6 that Ford used in its short lived (at least in the US) LCF commercial trucks. It was basically 3/4 of a 6.0, so maybe it only had 3/4 of the problems. :)
I think the inline 5 cylinder 3.2 would be a good diesel for the F150 if Ford decides to go that way. They may well be waiting to see how the Ram 1500 diesel does.
correct ,but the navi was rejected over NVH issues - then came the divorce.
The 3.2 5 cylinder(duratork) is the only likely candidate because it is certified for N.A. in the big Transit van,so could easily and quickly make its way to the F150.
Interesting if it come to pass, Ford gets a inline and Ram goes V - in 1/2 tons.
interesting times - wilber1Explorer

Seems like a waste of money and effort to me. Now a 300 hp 500 ft lb version that can bang out some MPG for a F-250 might peak my interest
Why do so many people seem to hate the idea of a full size half ton that puts out over 400 lb.ft. of torque and gets real world mileage in the mid to high twenties? - jus2shyExplorerThe only diesel that was being developed for a half ton before the economy took a nose dive was the "Lion" v8. It's being used by Land Rover at this moment, but it was a 4.4 liter mill and the 2009 F-150 was originally designed around the idea of this turbocharged diesel. There was a prototype running around from 2008 to 2009 I believe. Unfortunately the economy tanked and we all know what happened to the big 3 from there. Here's a wiki in case you're curious. Would've been an awesome motor for a half ton or an alternative diesel motor for a 3/4 ton.

The LCF's were only sold in NA - The V6 rumors from 2008 I think were possibly the 4.5 Navistar V6 that Ford used in its short lived (at least in the US) LCF commercial trucks. It was basically 3/4 of a 6.0, so maybe it only had 3/4 of the problems. :)

Not a 3.0 but probably the Powerstroke 3.2 and i think its an I-6.
Rumours are that it is the Lion V6 you see in the LandRover. The 3.2 Duratorq would be cheaper. - fla-gypsyExplorerSeems like a waste of money and effort to me. Now a 300 hp 500 ft lb version that can bang out some MPG for a F-250 might peak my interest
