No kidding!
I just got back from Tires Plus, a local discount tire store in my area. I needed a leaking valve stem replaced on the wife's Buick. I brought the loose tire in and explained the issue. 5 minutes later, repair was complete. I asked if they broke the bead off the rim. Nope, just pulled the old and inserted new. Being the sceptic, I poured some water on the offending stem and watched it bubble. A second attempt was successful after I explained the detailed procedure for a leaking stem. Good help is hard to find. - I understand it was originally Discount Tire but as they expanded West found that the name was taken in CA and maybe some other states. So in CA same company is America's Tire. And apparently in San Diego County (CA) it is also Discount Tire.

Not that I really pay attention to it but , I have never seen a Discount Tire Store . Do they have stores in every state ?
There are at least 6 Discount Tire Stores in your area (Portland) and more across the river in Vancouver..
it was bobndot that said he had never seen one.
I've used them for a decade or more. see my very early post on how well they treat customers
actually they are now America's tire in Oregon. For a while in oregon and some other states they were "discount tire" coninsiding with the website. - downtheroadExplorer

Our local Goodyear store and most others I have ever seen are not conducive to getting our trailer into and out of for tire service....
On the other hand Discount Tire are set up for trailers, large trucks etc.
We use Discount....easier to get into and out of and they sell lots of brands.

If that's the case, I agree, its not conducive because it's weather contingent , many will only work outside using portable jacks. That's what my local GY has done for me . I use them because it a huge easy in/out lot.
I think they are now all "America's Tire" at one time there were "Discount Tire" and "America's Tire", all the same company but named base on location. Kinda like the "helmans mayonaise" / "Best foods"
They have a reasonable nationwide presence, but not real strong in the middle states. MT, ND, ID, etc. - gmw_photosExplorerMy local GoodYear store is an "independent tire dealer", which means he can and does sell brands other than GY.
If they don't have a the bay next to the tire changing machine available for me to back the trailer into, he just has me park on the apron outside for his guy pull the wheels off. - kcfisselExplorer

So you were upset that they put on better rated tires than what you ordered?
Only that the tires are rated for quite a bit more than what I need and when aired up to 80psi the ride is rock hard.
I stepped up a tire size and rating so I was quite good with that. When they installed the LR E, the tires have WAY more capacity than is required, and the ride is harsh, and I couldn't find any markings on the aluminum rims to indicate what psi they could handle. I conferred with the manufacturer and was told they would handle the load.
I have a relatively light trailer for the tire capacity I now have.
I didn't say I was upset with the tires.
I am distressed that they didn't pay attention to what I asked of them.
I'm kind of a stickler for that, and it makes me feel I have to watch everything more closely. - bobndotExplorer II

When I bought my trailer tires at Discount tire I was impressed at the hustle that was happening in the service bays, not so much that they didn't install the tires I ordered.
I stepped up a size, and LR (to D) on a set Carlisle HD, which I ordered in plenty of time before my trip and for what I was charged. They apparently had a set of LR E in stock so that's what they installed. Aired up to 80 psi, on my lite trailer, they rode like they were solid rubber. We were leaving for the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque in a few days so I accepted them 'cause I didn't want the hassle at the lase minute. I tried them at 80 psi, but aired them down to 65 psi and they seem to be doing well. I like the larger, heavier tire.
Discount tire is available at a lot of places. I will use them again.
So you were upset that they put on better rated tires than what you ordered?
