double over double or quad bunk

I think we have decided to go with double over double since our boys are tall. My oldest is almost 6 feet tall and doesn't seem to have much space in the quad bunk. We just have to make sure we have a hide a bed sofa. We also want a pantry and a ward for the boys to put clothes. I know I am picky, but we want to make sure we get the right trailer. With that being said, do any of you have suggestions on models? We are getting overwhelmed and would like to purchase one soon. Thanks!

The two rear beds in our triple bunk bed Spree measured 92" x 32" and offered plenty of space for anyone, including any adults who periodically happened to use them ... sometimes even my wife or I would grab an afternoon snooze on one of those beds just because it was quieter and darker at the rear of the trailer than where the queen bed was located at the front near the entry door. Since we're a family of four I removed the third smaller bunk bed entirely which opened up that area even more ... so as I already said, a triple bunk bed model like this just may be the solution the OP is looking for in a trailer that's shorter and lighter than any quad bunk or double over double model.

I have two boys...big boys...those bunks in a lot of quad bunks are narrow and tiny...the double of double is THEIR preference as they get much larger beds. Our next trailer will likely be a double over double configuration.

IMHO....if I had three boys, I would still go with a double over double configuration and simply make the dinette bed or, an even better option is the sofa air bed for the third child.

That way everyone gets a big comfy bed...and making the third bed is not a big deal...in our PUP our oldest son gets the Queen size bed and the youngest gets the couch bed...it's his responsibility to make it of the evening and put it up of the morning. To which he has no problem doing because he gets his own separate bed. :)

I recommend thinking ahead and purchasing beds that will fit their frames in 3-5 years...not beds that fit now. I hope that makes sense.

With three boys but wanting to "keep the weight down" I wouldn't go in either direction but instead to a triple bunk bed model, especially one like the KZ Spree 240BH model we owned ... two bunk beds at the rear of the trailer which run the entire width of the trailer and are therefore plenty long for anyone, along with a third bed that runs along the rear curb side of the trailer. Underneath the rear lower bed is a generous storage area which can be increased significantly during travel by simply raising the lower bed on it's hinges. The current version is the KZ Spree 240BHS which is much shorter and lighter than any quad bunk bed trailer. It's a terrific floor plan for a family of four or five.

With ages of 13, 10, & 7 I would think they would want their own bunks soon. I guess it would also come down to how often you use it. If you use it a lot I would say get each their own bunk. Also you say your not sure you want a longer trailer. What do you currently have and what length/weight do you want to stay under. Here is a 28 ft and 3 bunks.

Take your kids to an RV show and have them try out the different types of beds - to see what fits and what is comfortable.

one reason we got the double over double was as the kids get taller, Which DS is now 6'1" it easier for him.

Our boys are 13, 10, & 7. I know the quad bunk makes for a longer trailer and we aren't sure we want that. Not sure if it really is that big of a difference.

I also agree that it matters how old the kids are. When our two daughters were young, they were okay with the small double bunks. As they got bigger, we looked for larger beds, and our current TT has the wider/longer bunks (forget the term for them). I always wanted to have the quad bunks in a separate bedroom, but could never tow a unit large enough to accommodate them, and didn't want to upgrade my TV. Now that our kids are 21 and 24, they don't come as often, so the separate quad bunks would not have been an efficient use of precious floor space.

I think it depends on how old your kids are. You could probably get away with two double bunks when they are younger. As they get older they will want their own beds.

We have two double bunks in ours. The three of them usually end up in the top bunk together. Up until the last trip where they all wanted their own bed. That was the first time I have folded down the dinette, but it makes a better sleeping space than the sofa.
