F450 vs F350 SRW payload

The GVWR has little to do with the trucks components any longer when it comes to the 350/3500/450 pickup trucks as their capabilities are far beyond the 14k limitation.

No answers to having a 9,750# RAWR AND SIMPLY NO WAY TO USE IT??? It’s all SAE rated!

Sure as I said I registered mine to carry what my 6 tires are supporting. There people on here that think I am breaking some kind of law by exceeding my GVWR. Or they think I will be getting sued in civil court if in an accident running over 14k. Simply ain’t gonna happen!

FACT, my 15 RAM DRW has a GVWR of 14k. My SAE RAWR is 9,750#. My Factory front axle weight is 5,250# +-. So HOW IN THE HE!! can I load my rear axle to it's RAWR and NOT be overloaded???

Folks it's it's all a numbers game! FACT is my loaded weight is well over 15k. I am perfectly "LEGAL" by licensing my truck to what it's loaded weight is. Another thing to consider is my tires have lot's of capacity even at those weights.

Bottom line, use the brain GOD gave you!

I'm not buying this numbers game argument. Why would Ford publish lower payload numbers than what they feel their truck is designed for? If it was to get around registration laws I would think they would offer the lower gvwr stickers for the f450 for those who this would affect. If I'm a heavy hauler and need a truck that can handle a 6000 lbs pin and Ford tells me their F450 can only take 4500 but Ram says they can handle 6000 I'm going to buy a Ram.

My point is the payload is false! A 450 in reality can handle way more weight than what the class3 limits it to with 14k GVWR.

My door jamb only gives 6k front and 9,750# RAWR. It does not have a 6k capaciity on paper but it sure does with using the RAWR.

SIMPLY PUT I can’t tow my RV and stay within its Class3 14k rating.

Someone please tell me why it’s an issue to load my rear axle to its SAE 9,750# rating that will place me at an actual weight of 15k. Also why have that RAWR if it’s going to put me over that magical 14k rating?

The idea is supposed to be that the GVWR takes into account all the components of the truck. If you're going to ignore ratings why not just load your truck to the weight rating of the tires? (in Alberta I believe I'm legal so long as I'm within my tire's ratings) It used to be that the F250 (maybe still is) had the same axle, tires and rims as the F350 SRW. Even though it seems stupid to me, Ford limited the GVWR of the F250 by omitting the overload spring of the F350 SRW and putting a 10k sticker on the door. In the case of the F250, loading the truck to the axle rating overloads the spring carrying capacity. If you're going to overload something I guess overloading your springs is the thing to be least concerned about.

So if you need a truck to haul 15k would you not register and insure it to haul 15k? Certainly the commercial guys are going to be registering their trucks for what they are hauling. Again, I don't understand why Ford wouldn't simply offer a reduced GVWR sticker for those people who buy a truck that they don't want to register and insure for their use so that Ford can boast true payload numbers?

Call your insurance agent. Ask for pricing for anything you choose that’s over 14k.

Anything that is rated over 14k is considered Commercial for licensing and for insurance purposes.

So someone PLEASE explain why a pickup 350 or 450 drw are both rated at 14k???

Ford doesn't build their F450, stick a 14000 lb GVWR door post sticker on it and publish all their advertising literature as though it has a GVWR of 14000 lbs but secretly expect all their buyers to know that if they want the true capacity of the F450 they have to go on the truck forums to find out what it is.

Except that's exactly what they do. Same with the 10K versions of the E and F350's. Full axles and suspension specs are readily available so buyers can make their own informed decision how to use the truck for their own needs. Both the 10k F350 and 14k F450 have even been stated by Ford to be GVWR-limited for registration and/or insurance purposes.

So why is a F450 chassis cab not following the same 4500 classification numbers that you're saying the F450 pick up is subject to? Is the F550 the same truck as the F450 just different numbers? I want to know it is designed to carry or tow a certain weight depending on what I have in mind for the truck. There may be the odd person who wants an F450 to haul their ego around with and for that buyer the payload number may be irrelevant but most of us want to know what our trucks are actually designed to haul.

Because a c&c is not the same as a pickup. Different frame to fit the truck bed pretty sure.
Otherwise, a 450 pickup is more capable than a 350 dually.

So you're saying the frame of the F450 pick up is what is limiting the GVWR .... otherwise is would be similar to the f450 chassis cab? Ok, maybe, I would guess it to be limited by suspension but regardless the point is that the GVWR of the F450 pick up is what it is by design.
