- VernDieselExplorerYeah think I ran the Penzoil Euro L the first 170,000 then switched to Rotella T6. I usually find it on sale and buy a few cases. Get oil fuel & air filters from Rock Auto. Oil change cost $60 to $65 and is very easy & convenient to do on this truck. Filter removal is a no mess under the hood unit.
Unfortunately many not all of the especially city Ram dealerships seem to gouge people for oil changes. Finding a good Ram service department is more difficult than finding a good deal on a Ram truck. Back when the dealership did mine while still under warranty I always paid $125 and that was for the Euro L. - brulazExplorer

The oil change is no more expensive then that of the Cummins. The filter has come down in cost to under thirty bucks.
Gad, I should hope not as expensive as the Cummins. The Cummins takes huge quantities of oil, and our local dealers seem to delight in ripping us off for the oil and the filter. I also have to change oil 2x per year just to maintain the warranty.
I end up spending 4-5X more per year on oil changes relative to my 2011 F150 Ecoboost.
Sorry, pet peeve of mine. I would hope the Ecodiesel should be a lot less to maintain than the Cummins. - Perrysburg_DodgExplorerThe oil change is no more expensive then that of the Cummins. The filter has come down in cost to under thirty bucks.
- 1stgenfarmboyExplorerOK.....now that is cleared up........
Vern, another question if you don't mind sir..
I am guessing you used the oil that Dodge said to use untill the warranty was out, what did you go to then, still using Dodges recomendation or go another way, the only complaint my friend has about his ecodiesel is the cost of an oil change.
I figgured we needed an oil question in this thread to make it compleat, - ShinerBockExplorer

Winning races towing a boat or RV is not on my list of must haves!
My truck can pull my boat at any speed I want. I have pulled some moderate hills in Michigan towing the boat without breaking a sweat and will be taking it to Tenn to my BIL's this Sept. so we will see how it handles the mountains on I-75 through Kentucky and Tenn.. But I do not think it will have a problem at all.
Don
It is not about winning races. It is just wanting to be able to keep within 5 mph of the speed limit for what I tow. Like I said earlier, some peoples have different expectations.
Not sure why you are not understanding this but towing within my trucks limits and 6800# is 1000# under my trucks limit, I can run 70 MPH and more if I feel like it. No I have not driven/towed the Ike and have no plans to. But considering ALL of those grades and even ones on I-75 have truck lanes if I could pull it at speed, I would just move over to the right lane and not sweet it.
Don
I am not saying you can't go up hills at the speed limit with what you tow. I am just saying that because someone wants to have the ability to go up hills at the speed limit and increases the horsepower of the engine so they can do so does not mean they are trying to win any races. My old 5.9L with its stock 240 hp just didn't have enough horsepower to keep the speed limit up the mountains when I used to take my old Jeep to Moab from Texas. There is only so much 240 hp will get you. I had to increase the power in order to keep speed. It did not mean I was trying to win any races. - Perrysburg_DodgExplorer

Don - VernDieselExplorerYes. It runs all day everyday just like a big truck TT in tow.
- 1stgenfarmboyExplorerVern, did you say your truck is a 2014 ?
- VernDieselExplorerPerrysburg their is only one longer steeper climb on 75 south. I hit it with a good head of steam and held the line at 55 mph taking an 8k TT to FL. Stayed in the middle lane passing strings of semis. Still averaged 15.0 mpg running mostly 65. A few big diesels with TTs passed me but they likely averaged 10 & 11 mpg.
At only 4 mpg difference I saved 66.6 gallons over 1,000 miles. At 2.39.9 a gallon that's an extra $160 of profit for the days work. Makes me happy. Granted that's working her hard but she has held up for 340k so it must not be over stressing anything. - ShinerBockExplorer
