- vanreeverExplorerPersonally, I would stick with the 3.5 EB for that size trailer. The 2.7 is a beast though. It probably would work if your using it for weekend warrior camping trips. Plus I read something a few weeks ago that really hit home. It is not necessarily the engine that limits you, it's the fact that a 1/2 ton is a half ton. Suspension, breaks, chassis... I personally tow a 4800 lbs dry 26 foot travel trailer with a 2014 Ford 150 Stx crew cab 5.0 v8 and wish I had an F250. The wife put the kibosh on that idea real quick lol. I just have to be very careful with what I pack and how I pack it. Plus my wd hitch makes me feel much better when going down the road. just my two cents.
- SamsonsworldExplorerSay what you want about the 2.7l eco but it is an impressive engine. It would have the power to tow it, just wonder about the cooling? I would probably err to caution and go with the 3.5l.

For that TT? Would advise a 6.7 liter V8 Ford F250 Powerstroke diesel.
Anyone towing with the new 2.7 V6 EcoBoost. Salesman at ford dealer said the 2.7 is as good as my 3.5 V6 .
I have a 30 ft. #7000 wet TT - rbpruExplorer IIIt is true that you can tow with almost anything. I pulled a 6000 lb. TT with a
200 hp V6. Max speed on the flat was 60 mph and in the Ozark hills 50 to 55 mph. Not much fun. We moved up to an E-boost with about 350 hp. now no problems.
As suggested do not take anyone's word for it find the vehicle's towing guide and see what the design ratings are. - AlmostAnOldGuyExplorerIf you want a demo of how the 2.7 Ecoboost does towing 7200 lbs up a good climb at elevation you can watch the Fast Lane Trucks video at the following link:
Ecoboost 2.7 at Ike Gauntlet
With the turbos these EcoBoost engines do well at elevation and overall have good performance. I particularly like the low end torque and how quiet they run down the road at low rpms.
I tow 8K with the 3.5 EcoBoost and it performs well. I have the heavier suspension with the Max Payload option (payload of 2,200) and use a good weight distribution and sway hitch.
If you are towing around 7k ensure you know what your hitch weight is going to be as well as passengers and cargo. Make sure you give yourself enough payload. Pay close attention to the payload and RAWR (rear axle weight rating) on the yellow sticker on the door jamb.
Also, remember those high trailer weight numbers manufacturers like to advertise are for a flatbed with the minimum 10% on the hitch and no frontal area. Travel trailers are more likely to be 12% and maybe 15% on the hitch.
Good luck,
Stu - Bionic_ManExplorerI honestly don't think I have ever seen a negative towing report with an EcoBoost (other than people who think it should get better MPG)
That said, if towing was a primary concern, I would likely go with the larger displacement EB. If it is more of a DD and occasional tow vehicle, I bet it would do just fine. - carringbExplorer

A 2.7 turbo would kill a 3.5 N/A towing. A 2.7 at full boost is over 5.0 L in displacement. Who do you think is going to win? A 5.0L or a 3.5L?
And the 2.7 turbo would annihilate it in the mountains in high altitude.
X2!
Compared to the 3.5L EcoBoost however, you'd definitely notice the higher RPMs to do the same work. Either should be able to pull most trailers up most grades doing at least the speed limit. - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorerA 2.7 turbo would kill a 3.5 N/A towing. The 2.7 V6 sounds like a good engine but am thinking that pulling that kind of weight would be a challenge even for the 3.5 Ecoboost. My travel trailer weighs 4770# empty and while the 3.5 Ecoboost has the power to pull it, one surely knows that all that weight is back there, I don't care to pull much more than that and feel safe. EDIT-Eat my words, the Ford towing spec sheet shows that you would be within limits, barely but within limits.
