Gen-Y torsion Receiver Hitch...

Not sure about how this hitch would work with a weight distribution system, or if it would at all?

Chatting, via email, with the owner of the business he sent me a jpg of the new version that he says works with all WD/Sway systems on the market. In essence instead of the ball mount it has a vertical bar with holes in it (just like a traditional WD Shank) to bolt the WD system to.

IMHO, one of the coolest aspects of the hitch is the integrated tongue weight scale. With changing loads (black/grey/white water, etc.) in our TTs, without measuring it, tuff to really know what our TW is trip to trip.

With the integrated TW scale, you see it each time you hook up...and can make adjustments as necessary.

It is a simpler version of air-safe hitch, using torsion rubber instead of airbag. Sounds like half the cost of air-safe.

Just ordered one. 1700 pound TW and 16000 Trailer Weight. 2 inch shaft. $489 delivered. Equivalent Airsafe was going to run me about $1500...

Plan to couple with Reese Strait-Line 1700 TW and 17000 Trailer weight WD and sway control.

Should get it in about 2 weeks.

Will keep you all appraised of how it works...

I'll have to give it some thought but at first glance it seems that it would cause a problem with a WDH. The forces exerted by the spring bars basically lift the rear of the TV via the hitch connection. Kind of like wheel barrow handles. Seems like it would have to twist up the torsion rubber before it could start lifting the rear of the TV to transfer weight back to the front axle. Maybe not. Just thinking out loud.

I guess the other thing I don't understand is the problem it's trying to fix. Maybe it's for a problem I've never experienced.

Reason for my interest is to improve ride int TV. We are retired and travel with an F250 towing a 37 foot 12K pound toyhauler. Last year we towed over 20K miles. WE have no problems with sway however on our nations busted up interstates the ride in the F250 can get pretty rough. Numerous folks have found that providing some flex between TV and trailer has been shown to improve ride in TV....in many cases significantly.

As far as WD, I am retired as the Chief engineer of a large aircraft prototyping organization. A simple vector force diagram shows that WD should work fine on hitches like this (Torsion flex, Airsafe, etc.). Many have used WD on similar hitches with predictable results (just search this forum).

However, looking at the force vector diagram, it appears to me the use of WD MAY reduce the tendency for the hitch to flex as designed. WD will place the upper flex joint in compression and the lower flex joint in tension. So, IMHO, the jury is still out (at least in my mind),on whether the use of WD reduces the flex in the torsion joints and limits the benefit of having a torsion hitch (flex between TV and trailer).

Now I am still thinking about this, so don't take it as a hard conclusion. The design of the hitch may actually increase the effectiveness of WD. Let me see if I can explain. WD will place the upper torsion joint in compression and the lower in tension. This gives one a leverage effect (the few inches of spacing between the joint in compression and the one in tension) in twisting the vehicle suspension and placing more load on the front wheels. ....I will have to have another cup of coffee and think about this thought....

I agree. However, my solution is to simply drive on the secondary roads. Avoid the potholes, big trucks and crazy people in a hurry. The scenery is a lot better too.

Even with the WD applying upward forces, the hitch should work the same since there is a torsion joint on top and bottom. Either way the hitch moves (up or down) will be cushioned with this hitch.

I've got a ProPride, so I don't see how this could work with that hitch, but I think it's a great idea for any large trailer that gets taken any long distance down the road.
