I thought the global ranger was a new platform and the US ranger ended production in 2011. So I am not sure there is a direct comparison.

I double checked. His is an 07 Ford Ranger (Global) turbo diesel with 2500# cargo capacity. I'll guarantee you my Ranger is nowhere close to that!!!

An unusual article on Pickups.com suggested there should be a Sprinter Pickup, having a mockup photo in the article
Now these are not hypotheticals outside the U.S. and especially in Europe. The Cab Chassis Variants of Vans are their Heavy Duty Pickup Trucks. Payloads range from 6,000-10,000lb, towing 8,000lb
Here is the Sprinter with a factory installed utility bed, 6,000lb payload, bed is 13.5 ft long. New Sprinter lifting towing here from the mediocre 5,000lbs to the reasonable 8,000lbs. I know you are getting used to the site of European Vans, but would the Cab Chassis find a niche in the U.S.?

Agree they are small (too small for me) and have less HP and smaller engines than we are used to (but are really frugal w/r to fuel consumption), but they have exceptional PAYLOAD. Despite what ShinerBock says, everything I've read suggests these things can easily handle their payload and more. What's pathetic to me is the RAM EcoDiesel, not only does it have low HP but it has low Payload to boot. Truly a grocery getter, and exactly what RAM wanted, because the vast majority of American truck are just big grocery-getters or commuters. The market in NA (less Mexico) is different than the rest of the world, that's for sure.

Like you I cannot understand the RAM Diesel, the payload is pretty ordinary to say the least. I would think the diesel would give a nice midrange torque curve for towing, but comes up very short in the payload stakes

I never stated that I did not know anything about global pickups. I am not an expert on them, but I have been around my fair share of them in my time in the military and the places I have traveled.

Which I also said no to because it has more to do with each country's regulations, NOT each trucks carrying abilities like you are suggesting.

Here is where you also quoted that Motor Trend article backing up your claim that truck are different because the US Colorado uses a 40% lighter frame than the Global version. You figured that since it was lighter then it must be weaker. It is funny that is was okay for you to use it in your argument here, but when I showed proof from the very company who makes both frames that the US Colorado frame version is actually stronger, then you dismissed it as PR spin.

Which is it is it Robert? You used that "US Colorado frames are 40% lighter" as the basis of your whole argument to prove that US versions are weaker(even though it is the opposite in the example you used) and that they are different. You have been saying that the reason for the different capabilities of these trucks is because the Global versions are better with stronger parts. I keep trying to tell you that the difference in capabilities between countries has more to do each country's regulations just as your buddy stated earlier.

Meh, people on the VW TDI forums have been talking about this since the Amarok first came out. I won't believe anything until VW announces it. And even then, didn't Mazda announce a diesel for the American market ... a long time ago?

Agree with you not a big fan of the Amarok VW needs to bring it up to the standard of the other new Global Offerings
