Actually if you check the numbers you will find that GM (Chevy/GMC) have a combined year to date sales gain of 1.68%
Ford has a year to date gain of 1.9%.
Ram has a year to date gain of 21.4%.
Year to date
Ford - 305,265
GM twins - 274,945
Ram - 170,711
May sales
Ford - 68,520
GM twins - 64,074
Ram - 37,131
Ford has still outgained the GM twins slightly for the year. Chevy has a net loss of sales for the year to date and is only boosted by the GMC. Ram is soaring and gaining rapidly on both.
For the month of May the GM numbers look good. But not yet the "top seller".
RAM is getting "conquest sales" with growth numbers like that. At the expense of mostly GM.
Can you please quote your source of "conquest sales" and methodology to calculate? Was it that there previous new truck was GM? Was it that there previous new vehicle was GM? Was it if they owned a GM truck (purchased used)?
Until you provide your source, I will just believe that this is CKNSLS internet babble! - TeamfourExplorer

GM's numbers are high because 21% of their truck sales were fleet sales. Accountants would prefer that sales be retail to make higher profits.
Are you saying that fleet operators do not buy Ford and Ram trucks, only less knowledgeable buyers?
Fleet vehicle operators decide what to buy based on the total cost of ownership which is the difference between what it costs to buy the trucks, keep them running, and the amount they get when they sell the trucks. Strangely enough they could care less how pretty they look or how many cup holders they have.
Not saying that at all. Analysts are saying that GMs sales are not necessarily an indicator that the truck is popular with the guy on the street. In gauging popularity with the general population it is the retail sale figure that matters. - FordloverExplorer

I am not a huge fan of the redesigned 1/2 tons by GM but I have seen two, 2015 Chevy 1 ton dually's in town and they are one tough looking truck.
I've seen more and more of the GM 1/2 tons on the road, but this AM on my way to work I saw the first one on the side of the road, being loaded on a roll back wrecker. Doesn't matter what brand emblem is on the front, having your ~2 month old truck break down on the side of the road sucks. Hope it's a simple fix for the guy.
I personally don't care if a truck looks tough, just that it is tough and capable. But I also own one of the most blandly styled SUV's produced in the last 15 years... - parkersdadExplorer

Will the V-8 cummins on a foreign truck hurt ram sales? Everybody knows a V-8 diesel can't do the job but a V-6 diesel can. Just being silly so don't get any feelings hurt.

No feelings hurt but the Cummins motor is an inLine 6 not a V-6 there is a big difference. Also it is larger than most of the V8's as it is 408 cubic inches. - spoon059Explorer II

Another thing to consider. When you sell half again more trucks that anyone else. You have to really up your sales to gain a percentage point. However. When you sell less than half of what the leader sells. You only have to sell a few more than last year to gain percentage points.
In other words. The less your volume is. The easier it is to gain.
But the Tundra is coming on strong baby!!! ;) - buckyExplorer II21.4 multiplied by not much = not much. Just saying..........

The other problem with Ford selling more trucks is where to build them. If already running 3 shifts 24 hours a day and 5 days a week, with some mandatory Saturdays, then where are they going to come from?
They can only make so many trucks, unless they tool up another plant to make more. And most of their factories are working near capacity. Their only hope might be to start making the F-450 and F-550 in the Ohio plant that used to make the Econolines, and will be producing only the F-53 and commercial E-350 and E-450 dual rear wheel van cab and chassis models starting next year. This will free up production for another few hundred trucks per month at the other plants.

Lets look at the fact, generally speaking, ALL the truck manufactures are selling more rigs than in late 08 to into the early 2010 time frame. Employment is up etc etc.
At the end of the day, drive the rig that fits you ASSet the best, beyond that, ALL of them are better trucks than my first NEW truck back in 81. A 2500 GMC with a whopping 105hp 292 I6, and maybe 275 lb ft of torque. Now the 4.3 V6 from GM, puts out numbers BETTER, yes BETTER than the 4bbl 454 in 81, 195/330 specs or there abouts.

This is what is so often lost in all the brand bickering. Trucks have come so far in terms of power, safety, efficiency and comfort that it's really laughable the way most threads in this forum digress.
I recently bought a new truck a couple months back and it's like deciding which super model is the best looking. I'd be just fine driving any of them home (the truck..... get your mind out of the gutter :) ) - rhagfoExplorer III

With Chevy at 197,000 and RAM at 170,000, and Chevy falling 1% and RAM gaining 21% YTD, it's only a matter of time before Chevy falls to #3 in YTD sales.
Don't mix in facts on this forum, I believe it's not allowed :B
Dream weaver comes to mind here Mark, ahhh the seventies had some great music. Was it a Gary Weaver song or GM Ad?
Where is the chart with the HD pickups?? I would like to see how the HD stack up, yes I am bias, but bet RAM is closing the gap there faster. We could likely even let Ford combine the F350 and F450 as they used the F450 in the King of the Hill. :B - rhagfoExplorer III

Honda Ridgeline??? Really? Is that even a real truck?
Don't knock until you have driven one!
Tow rating is 5,000#, moved my youngest daughter to Bolder, CO from Portland, OR towing a tandem axle U-Haul enclosed trailer 4,600#, 3 adults, 2 full size dogs (100#+), and the trunk was full(yes Ridgeline has a TRUNK). That is a distance of 1,200 miles, only time we got pulled down was in the Blue Mountains in eastern Oregon, 45 mph for a short steep climb, still passing semis.
