- John_in_PAExplorerYou don't have to do anything outside. Pull the radio inside the camper, find the wires for all the speakers connected to the back of the radio and correct the wiring. Your radio is wired with the pair of speakers that responds to the fader wired backwards. the two outside speakers should be wired to rear output, right and left, and your two inside speakers should be wired front output, right and left. Someone crossed a set of wires when installing the stereo. There should be a wiring diagram with the Kenwood manual that will at least show you Kenwood's color code for wiring. no guarantee that the camper manufacturer followed those colors though, but it should be easy with a meter to tell which wires are which. This is a 20-25 minute job tops for someone who is familiar with car stereos.
- Jack_SprattExplorerUpdate:
Unfortunately AF never returned my call for assistance.
The Fader on my unit lowers the volume on one inside and one outside
speaker.
Seems like a lot of effort to have to remove the outside
speakers, cut the lead, replace, and then recaulk.
Thanks again for the tips on this radio. - wcjeepExplorerAs mentioned, it's the fader control. On my 2008 AF 811, I had to manually turn of the "Aux" in the menu settings everytime I did a full power shutdown. Upgraded to a better Kenwood thru Crutchfield.
If you long press the Source or SRC button on the Kenwood stereos it simulates turning the key off in a car. The battery draw drops way low. I recall having the Faceplate on the draw was about .4 - .5 amps. Forcing hibernate mode the battery draw was .04 amps. When leaving the camper for the day we always force Hibernate. When we come back the clock is always correct. - kerry4951ExplorerI agree, the stereo system in my AF 1140 is nothing but confusing for me and my wife. It works good but I hate the thing. I dont understand why they cant use a more simplified unit. Even back in 2010 when I took the Northwood factory tour, our guide told the group that they were switching over to a more simple to use unit since they were aware of the complaints that they were getting from customers and dealers. I dont think that ever happened.
- gitpicker2009Exploreryup, it's the fader control. I had to call PJ at Princess Craft where I bought the unit. They were able to help.
I've got to say, I love the AF1150, but HATE the stereo. It would be easier to pilot the space shuttle than to step through the various menu options on that unit. - JumboJetExplorerDiagonal cutters - locate the wires connecting the outside speakers. Simple, but effective.
- Jim_CarolynExplorerI want to dump in my 2 cents here about the stereo and speakers set-up in the Arctic Fox.
After contacting Northwood about the fact that the tv speakers shut off when a dvd was playing and they could give me no help, Northwood authorized me to go to a service center to correct the problem. So, I did and they found out that the Kenwood unit does not have a dual zone speaker in their system.
They did however show me how to operate the electronic fader control on the Kenwood unit to turn off the outside speakers. That really all I needed to know.
I think Northwood Mfg should install a better stereo unit in the campers and/or install a better wiring control system and train their dealers how to use them. - bighatnohorseExplorer IIYep. . .the fade control is what you want.
Bye the way, look up your camper stereo on Amazon to see what kind of ratings it has. You may find it interesting. - kerry4951ExplorerOn an AF front speakers should be wired together, and rears should be wired together. Every time you turn your battery cut off switch on you have to redo the "fade" control. If not the outside speakers (R on the control) will be putting out with the inside speakers (F on the control)). You have to fade out the (R) completely and there should be no sound from the rear speakers. If its not working like that than someone wired your speakers wrong.
- rekoj71ExplorerMy outside speakers are considered the REAR speakers and the inside the front speakers so the Fader is what I use to control the outside volume. Yours should probably be hooked up that way.
I would bet that if you pull out the stereo all of the speaker wires are there, it just might be a mater of figuring out which one is which and then connecting them to the right channels.
