I know, I know...Tires again

I have an E-mail from Carlisle that the ST 225-75R15 radial RH is speed rated N. That is 87 mph.

I bought Good Year Marathons at one point and every single one had the tread rip off at some point. Never again!

I'm in the market for tires - this one looks like a good candidate to replace mine which are ST 205/75 R15.

Question - what is the difference in size between mine and this one?
And, are these LT tires?

I bought the 195/75r15 to replace my 205/75r15. The 225s might be to large. These tires are soo much better than the original Chinese junk tires. Had them for a year now and over 4000 miles. Totally happy with them!

My brother in law is getting his first RV soon and I sent him a note to investigate the ST vs LT issue - he responded with this well-written article - Clicky

Two points jumped out at me. 1) The issue of the sidewall cords being selected in ST tires specifically to deal with the twisting that comes from having a pair of solid axles when you're turning the rig. 2) The load rating specifics cited, where a commonly recommended LT tire has a lower spec than the ST tire it is likely replacing.

The other mitigating factor for my brother in law is he lives in California and would have to tow for more than 4 hours before he gets anywhere it is legal to be going more than 55MPH with a trailer.

your posting Discount tire info on the speed rating (N= 87 mph) which isn't on Carlisle RH website. In fact all we see over their on their warranty page says quote;
***The Warranty is void if the tire or wheel fails due to damage from improper inflation pressures, exceeding the maximum speed limit, or overloading the tire beyond the maximum load capacity stated on the sidewall.***

– Best practice. Do not exceed 60 mph while towing a trailer.
– Most ST trailer tires have a maximum speed rating of 65 mph.

I had a blowout with a Carlisle too.

The frustrating thing is there's NO visible warning. No cracks or bulges. Plenty of tire tread, and pressure checked the morning I roll out. Our trailer is a tandem axle, and WELL below the trailer rating, and same goes for the tire rating. I cruise at 63-65 MPH.

After hearing so many good things about Maxxis from people on the forums, and personal friends...
