Um... I am just trying to buy a nice tow vehicle. Nothing fancy, just reliable, honest and strong and diesel.
I have to focus on early 2000 models due to budget, so I have to be
picky and don't want to get one that is beat.
Great info though!
Good looking lifted dodge... gurgle.
I would personally pick a puller over a hot rod every day. I live in ranch country, and I know my '95 was used for pulling all its life. I bought it with 94k miles on it, and I just turned 217k this week. People that pull trailers a lot depend on their vehicles to be reliable, so they generally take care of them. - JIMNLINExplorer III

Does this increase the chances that it has been lightly used?
Also, do you have to un-lift it to use to tow a TT?
Thanks,

Depends on the type of lift.
A simple body lift doesn't destroy OEM parts and geometry.
If its a suspension lift beware. Some suspension lifts don't retain the OEM capacities or the new suspension parts are of poor quality to be used in a work situation.
My daughter in law has a '14 2500 GMC Dmax/A with 37" tires and a 6" suspension lift. The cost was stupendous (stupid). She pulls a 10000 lb blue water boat with twin 300 V-techs. I've rode in the truck and it rides as expected (noisey-bouncy).
Of course the Dmax has the power to overcome those heavy tall tires with much parasitic drag. Dropped her empty highway milage from 18 to 13/13.5 mpg but its what she wants. Oh..... and shes 50 years old.
For towing/working duties I would mess with a suspension lifted truck like that. A small body lift...maybe. - mayo30Explorer

OP,
Here's my lifted tricked out truck and I am far from some young kid. I would put it up against any 2500/3500 SRW truck on this forum towing, ride quality, or ready to tow condition. You need to do your homework though on the upgrades that have been done to it and why.
What lift kit did you use and how high.Height and wheels and tires are standard looking. What tricks did you do,black lights? - transamz9Explorer

I will tell you that you will pay a premium price for a properly "lifted and tricked" truck or low mileage bone stock in the early 2000 models. They are sought after pretty hard because of emissions (lack of) and the problems that were had out of some of the later years of 2000 models. - groundhogyExplorerUm... I dont think most would look at your truck as "lifted" as seemed to be implied by the op and "tricked" or loud. Without a lot more info I know I would think more like this one below when someone says "lifted and loud". Not speaking for op or anyone else but from time to time people are more so referring to trucks like this and not yours. Yours doesn't look like it has any lift at all. It's nice but then all Dodges are nice.
Thanks for the complement.
I still say that without more info a lot of people are making blanket statements. Lifted is lifted. Tricked is tricked. Because of pulling my fifth wheel mine is only lifted 2.5 inches with 34 inch tires. I have to run the rear of the truck a little low (squatted) so the 5er does not run too nose high. It is riding on a custom 4 link total air ride rear suspension with on board air. It also tuned and has a turbo back MBRP exhaust so it is "loud" too.
The OP needs to give a little more info before a true educated opinion can be given.;) - carpetguy2Explorer

I had many lifted truck with tons of add ons.I towed my boat and campers.Never had one issue. Not everyone lifts a truck and beats on it.or is a kid.
It what you like to do to own your vehicle.
SO if a guy buys something and wants done his own way it's Beat on .
Come on really.
Agreed, I used to sell lift kits and properly engineered, they work fine. I just wouldn't tow a large trailer with a lifted truck.
I bought a 40ft fifthwheel.And had a gmc 2500 with 8 " of lift.Towed great but I knew I needed a dually.
I used to haul travel trailers and boats all the time with ease though. - azrvingExplorer

No not always but take any 2 identical trucks and put larger tires and a lift on one and leave the other one at manufacturer stock and accelerate and drive them at the same speed and the modified one will experience more stress and advanced wear because of the overall ratio change. The only partial exception to this would be if the modified truck was re geared to bring it back to factory but that seldom happens because of cost and the drive line angles are still modified. The difference is that the cheap way to made up for it is with the accelerator pedal no matter the age of the driver.
I have built a highly modified Jeep and went to 4.56's with 33 GY MTR's, air lockers and a TNT 6.5 in long arm lift. It pretty much pulled like stock and didn't suck fuel because it was properly geared but it was big money and the drive angles extreme. - Ron3rdExplorer III
