Just got some bad news, could use some perspective.

I had an order in for a 2015 F150 with the 5.0 and max payload package. I sold my 4Runner and have just been driving my F350 until the new one came.

On Tuesday I called the dealer to verify the delivery date and they informed me Ford has cancelled my order with no real help.

My dealer is doing what they can but are limited to what they can do.

So I'm thinking of this:
F150 Lariat
5.0 V8, tow package, integrated brake controller.
Super crew with the 5.5' box

This will give me a payload of just over 2000 lbs.

This should be adequate for our family with just about 100 lbs remaining payload after adding tongue weight, 4 passengers (me, wife, daughter, and dog), tonneau cover weight, and a little fudge factor for cargo and other stuff.

With this I will be back to periodic trips to the weigh scales and measuring the trailer tongue weight and loading the trailer carefully. With the F350 or the F150 with max payload package there is more room for variance.

I tow a spree 318bhs with a maximum weight of 7000 lbs and approximately 1200 lb tongue weight including my blue ox hitch which is really heavy.

Anything I am missing or have not considered.

The one bonus is that this truck will be 1 foot shorter and slightly easier to park than the super crew with a 6.5' box...

  • I suspect dealer isn't talking because he wants more $$$ for the change over to 2016.
  • I have a friend who ordered a brand new Audi covertible and put down a deposit. When it didn't come after about 6 months they canceled that order and re-ordered. It was another 6 months and still no car. In the meantime the prices of the cars went up and she could re-order AT THE NEW PRICE. And she still wants an Audi FROM THE SAME INCOMPETENT FRICKIN DEALER. I asked if she was nuts.
  • My guess would be due to the frame shortage problem. But looks like they could have told you so.
  • I would honestly wait and get what you want. Don't settle.. You still have a vehicle to use until the new one comes in. Daughter still growing, firewood and supplies add up fast in the bed!
  • Gotta admit, if a company cancelled my order with no explanation, I'd be ordering again.. From a competitor.

Because someone else will ask anyway, since you're buying new, any reason you're not considering a 250 or 350? It would solve the payload concerns. But some people do have legit reasons for sticking with a half ton.
  • I don't quite understand how a factory order gets "cancelled"? My first thought is that they changed model years, and now you should be getting a 2016 with all the same specs. If that is the case the factory should have advised the dealer of what was happening and contacted you asap. I am no expert on Ford vehicles so cannot help with your "plan b" truck. Just my take but if you are already lamenting trips to the scale and careful packing then doesnt that take the fun out of camping? I would want a decent buffer for that trip when you need all your stuff, water, food, drinks, firewood...and extra kid or two and bikes....you get the idea. I hope it works out to your satisfaction.
