Keystone Travel trailer faulty design

I need help. I just purchased a 2015 Keystone Laredo 322RL. This is the second Keystone travel trailer I have purchased. The design of this unit has serious flaws that need to be addressed as it is not safe to use as is.

The three issues I have are
1. The slide that has the freestanding dinette has a lip over 1 inch high where the slide floor meets the trailer floor. This lip makes it dangerous and impossible to use the dinette chairs as two of the chair legs go past the lip and put the chairs on a dangerous angle.

2. The heat vent in the lounge area gets covered by the pull out bed when the bed is extended making it impossible for the heat to get into the lounge.

3. The street side door on the pass thru storage area has been eliminated making it impossible for me to use half of the storage area as I can't get to it. Keystone maintains it was a rule change, but info. from RVIA shows that if Keystone just changed the hinge location all would have been fine.

I have tried to resolve with Keystone but their answer is "It was built as designed".

I'd like opinions of how to proceed further and/or how to get the name and mailing address of the President of Keystone so I can deal with someone there that might care.

Thank you

  • 1) A 1" lip makes it impossible to use your chairs? What do you do when you're outside on the actual ground? Maybe you can just add a 1x4 under between the carpets where the legs land.

    2) My living area register is under the sofa sleeper bed. It does not affect heating.

    3) Keystone is not obligated to add a feature that wasn't there. It's not like they took the door away after you bought it. A slider shelf will allow you to access the full compartment.

And I agree.... Did you not look at the trailer before purchase? I don't think you have any ground to stand on, as all of those items would have been clearly visible before sale. Buyer beware. All sales are final.
  • Have them adjust the slide and make you a passthru. The heat vent you will have to live with. They messed up your passthru no question about it.

I agree, I can always purchase another door, but all literature and pictures from Keystone showed TWO doors and the should deliver what is promised. Why else would they call it "pass-thru " storage.

From the Keystone Website: "All information on this website is the latest available at time of publication approval. Features, floor plans, and specifications are subject to change without notice."

If you purchased sight unseen, as others have suggested, the fault is entirely yours.

To expect Keystone to completely change how items two and three where designed, is unreasonable and asking for the impossible.
  • I appreciate all replies. I looked at the unit on-line as none were in stock. Perhaps that was my fault, but I had no other choice. All of these items were as purchased.

    Thanks to all.

Just as with cars, there are things one doesn't see until purchased.

I will continue to pursue with Keystone as soon as I find the name and address of the proper person to communicate with.
  • The only legit item in your list is item #1.
The other items are simply the way the unit is made that if important to you should have been caught prior to purchase.
Item #1 would have been less noticeable and is a bit more of a poor design.
Nevertheless it is not a warranty issue and is something I imagine you will have to live with or remedy yourself. Do not expect Keystone to create a fix
  • As far as the slide out lip thing is concerned, it sounds like the slide is not going all the way out. If that's the case then it's a simple adjustment to the limiter.
If you could lift the carpet flap and show us the actual edge of the floor, it might tell us for sure.
  • Just asking, did these things happen after you purchased or before?
  • We have had 4 trailers...each time we bought we thought we had, "the perfect one."

Later found stuff we didn't like or thought was a dumb design flaw. That was all on us.

So, I guess I have to agree with ford truck guy above.
Hopefully you will get some help from Keystone, but I seriously doubt it.
    Anyway, good luck with it.
  • I don't see anything that makes it unsafe.

1 might just be the way you are using it, hard to tell without seeing it

2 you are probably stuck with

3 you can always add a baggage door

I think you should learn to live with it or modify it as you wish. No point in beating your head into a wall and making yourself feel worse than you already do. If it doesn't have flaws and was built as designed they won't change it. Unfortunate you didn't notice these things before purchase.
  • So,,,,,,,,,,,,, I hate to ask this but I will...--

Did YOU actually LOOK at this trailer before purchasing it ?? I would think that MOST people would have seem these things as they were walking threw... and if not , maybe during the PDI ??

Not trying to sound smug >>>> just honest
