Who has replaced their stock air filter with a K&N? Are they really better? Improve performance, gas mileage, etc.

- They work.....add a tornado vortex to inlet air, a magnet on fuel line, one of those ionizers, a vapor injector, a little water injection along with a 'tuner' and you will rarely have to stop for fuel.
- I'm glad they work for you. What kind of use does your truck get? Does it mostly stay on roads or do you travel in dusty areas? One of the areas we frequent had volcanic ash fallout in 1980 and that stuff still gets kicked up every time you drive over it or the wind picks up. It did damage to many vehicles that wasn't seen until later.
- Been using them for years on my Chevy trucks with no problem. Just follow directions about cleaning and oil.
If your skeptical then use the regular ones! - I've seen too many off-road toy engines ingest dirt due to those filters to take the risk. My off-road toys do not use them - They use a double layer foam filter that is oiled and then a water resistant pre-filter is slipped over the top.

The manufacturer can't use them because it requires the owner to raise the hood, remove the air cleaner, and clean it. The average driver has no idea how to change the oil.
There is nothing wrong with K&N air filters. I have put them in a 1992, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006 and a 2010 vehicles.- For the Ford Powerstrokes, you can't beat the Donaldson filter that comes as standard equipment.
- I had one on my last two GM HD 6.0 trucks. Never had a problem with MAF. Just can't over oil them. As for mileage increase, not noticeable. I believe it does give the engine better air flow when needed.
- we only used them on race cars, never on our family cars or trucks. we usually tear down the race car motor on a regular bases, not so on the family rigs.
