- ksssExplorer`This reversal on the price of gas verse diesel has admittedly caught me by surprise. I bought my '15 3500HD with a 6.0 for intermediate towing, I had a '12 2500HD and for the same purpose and came out very well. Diesel is .30 cents cheaper now than gas here. I have not seen that since the early 2000's I think. I am not coming out so well on my gas this time, except it was 8-9K cheaper then a comparable Duramax.
I took my wife to look at these little pickups a couple weeks ago. She is currently in a 2011 AWD Lacrosse and have been considering getting her into one of these. We didn't drive one, but on appearance and appointments a Denali version of the Canyon would be a nice addition. - TurnThePageExplorerDiesel has been more expensive that gas here for an awful long time too. However it's not anymore. I know winter heating oil will cause it to rise, but by how much? And what about the other 3 seasons going forward?

ksss I'm a betting man and I bet it will end up doing as well as the Ram ecodiesel. When the Ram went on sale it sold out in less than 3 days. Even taking some engines out of the Jeep lineup this year they continue to sell out in 3-5 days each month with a 6 week average lot time.
I would except the Colorado to do the same and GM knows this too. Oh BTW I just filled my truck this morning and paid $2.29 a gallon for diesel, regular gas was $2.49 with premium selling for $2.89! Yep OH48Lt that kinda kills your idea on fuel costs now doesn't it.

Be sure to ask don the cost of diesel vs gas this coming winter. I seriously don't think he won't act so foolish like he is now.
Btw.... Diesel is 0.20 more than gas were I live and diesel has been more than gas for at least the last 10 years.Perrysburg Dodgeboy wrote:
Not sure why some people can't or won't understand that these smaller turbo diesels are way more efficient than Ford's Eco-Boost. Good for GM for understanding that! At 30 mpg highway in my Ecodiesel (when I drive 65 mph) not even the 2.7 EB can come close to it.
I didn't see where the Ecoboost was mentioned in this thread about the Chevy Colorado, but the Ecoboost is not the same class of engine as these smaller diesels. It's more a direct competitor to the traditional gas V8s, with considerably more power than the little diesels and considerably less fuel mileage. Having said that, I think a midsize pickup with decent towing capacity and mid 30s highway mpg is very appealing. Too bad Ram dropped the Dakota a few years back, the 3.0 Ecodiesel would have been a very sweet engine in that truck.- Perrysburg_DodgExplorerksss I'm a betting man and I bet it will end up doing as well as the Ram ecodiesel. Don - ksssExplorerGM's sales goals for the Diesel Colorado are pretty tame around %10 I believe I read. I think they should make the little Duramax available in more configurations, but perhaps that will come later. So far I think the little pickup has exceeded GM's sales expectations and has been surprising a lot of people that would never have considered a GM product (not a lot of conquest sales so far, but the feedback from other owners has been good). I think it is a great product for GM.

People seem to be forgetting that you can get a DIESEL with much better gas mileage for about the same (or less) than a half ton with gas and worse mileage.
People that want a pickup but need better gas mileage will look at this vehicle.
Some people that just want a pickup will look at this vehicle. Heck, look at the Toyota Tacoma... it can't tow very much, the gas mileage isn't much better than the full size Tundra, they cost just about the same... but the Tacoma outsells the Tundra almost every month...
More expensive, less power, less room, less payload, less tow capability, and about equal gas mileage. Some truck buyers simply don't care about things like that and buy what they want.
Good for GM to get into the diesel market in a smaller truck. Hope they do well.
Don't forget that smaller trucks also- fit off road better
- fits in tight parking garages at work better
- fits in some home garages better
- you can reach over the side of the truck and touch the bottom of the bed
- Some people are just intimidated by big trucks
- others prefer to simply have a smaller form factor
- many consider 7,000 lbs tow rating substantial
- Colorado has nearly 1500 lbs of payload which is more than enough for a lot of people
Thanks!

GM is going to sell a ton of theses trucks and I bet they put a diesel in their 1500 when they do their redo in 2018?
BTW OH48Lt you must not get out much, diesel in our area is lower than gas right now and has been for sometime now. Well maybe not in Whitehouse lol.
Don - travelnutzExplorer IIKiddos? You darn young wippersnappers are still kids! Likely still are wet behind the ears? Our oldest great grand kid is 13 now and not far from 14. So not very far from "great great grand kids" now! We have 6 GG kids now and another in the oven presently.
We'd had our first kid just after college which was so long ago and he's also retired now as is his younger sister. Lots of water's gone over the dam and probably the same water has many times over and over so far. However, I don't feel or even consider myself very old at all, just well tested! All the years of intense business owning responsibility and our 51 years of RV'ing and boating have kept me/us real "young"!
