Hi,I'm new here, in fact this is my first post. I'm sure you can see that. Here's what's up. I'm replacing my 26' Malard. We are going to look at a 5th wheel, along with a tow vehicle. The 5th wheel is a 2004 Cameo by Carriage 34ft 5th Wheel. Quite an upgrade for us. The truck is a 2003 Ford extended cab diesel. I don't have anymore details than that on the truck. They are asking $24,000 for the trailer. It looks like a real good deal to me. Any ideas what this truck might be worth? is it known to be a good tow vehicle? Sorry I don't have more information yet. What should I know about this truck? are there more than 1 diesel engines put in the 2003 ford? Any help will be appriciated.Allen

Ford used 2 engines in 2003, early models had a 7.3 and was an excellent engine, while later models had a 6.0 which was the worst engine every used in a Ford. If it is the 6.0, run as fast as you can. They did improve the 6.0, but not for a couple years, with the 2003/2004/2005 being the worst of the worst.2003 Ex Cab trucks with the 7.3 and in EXCELLENT condition will still command $15K to $20+K, depending on mileage and trim level. 2003 6.0 trucks will not fetch $10K on any market for any trim level.Here is a link to NADA value and their price is waaaay to high. You should start at LOW retail and go up from there.

Pass on the truck. Ford 6.0L diesels were notorious for problems. Especially the first couple years. As for the fiver? 24K for a 2004 is high. Start at NADA for a high book value. And go down from there.

I agree with donn on both counts, more or less. The exception is if the truck is a7.3 liter powerstroke, which were made in the early'03 year. If so, it may definitely be worth checking in to. If it's a6.0, be very cautious, and seek out more info of what to look for, or pass altogether. Also agree price on trailer its kinda high. If the 6.0 has had the entire "Bullitproof" mods I might take a swing @ the right price. I'm partial to the 7.3 as you can see in my sig.
