Personally, I think there is a HUGE gap between the big block gassers available in terms of torque, and the huge 6.7 liter diesels that put out 800+ ft. lbs. of torque.
Ford's 6.2 liter is only 385 hp, and 405 ft. lbs of torque.
Ram's 6.4 liter is 410 hp, 429 ft. lbs of torque.
The difference in ft. lbs between the gas trucks and the diesel option is 400 ft. lbs of torque. That's big enough to start asking the question, why?
Personally, I think Ford, Ram and GM purposely keep their gas trucks underpowered to drive high margin, high profit diesel truck sales.
These trucks have relatively high maintenance requirements, and are total overkill for most people who do not tow 14,000 lbs 5th wheels or have some sort of business need.
I think the Titan XD has a definite market for people who may have an average 9-10k lbs 5th wheel/trailer, that they may not feel fully comfortable towing with a half-ton/or 3/4 ton big block gasser.
And, more competition and more choices are always good.
