Just something to note as far as transmissions go. Ford supposedly uses the same transmission for the gas engine as they do their diesel engine super duty trucks.
There is a significant difference in the torque between the 6.2 and the 6.7, but much less between the Ram 6.7 and the Nissan 5.0 diesels. Food for thought.
865 TQ with Aisin and Cummins 6.7.
550 TQ with Aisin and Cummins 5.0
That's 315lbft of TQ difference...that's a fairly significant difference... - NC_HaulerExplorer

During the 2014 Ram 3500 model year it went up from $2650 to $2795. I'm sure it's gone even higher for 2015.otrfun wrote:
From a technical perspective what could be the drawback of using an AS69RC in the Nissan Titan Cummins? The only complaint I've heard about the Aisin are the 30k maintenance intervals on the Ram version.
FWIW, the AS69RC transmission is almost a $3000 option in the Ram.
I thought it was about $2k option with the Ram :H
$2995 is what I saw on several window stickers for 2015 Ram 3500s at local dealerships on line...
No complaints with the Aisin thus far, with 29,000 miles on the truck, guess I'll be able to report back any supposed "nightmares" on servicing the Aisin tranny in the very near future....Have several that have reported back on the cummins forum that have serviced their Aisins at the 30,000 mile mark and don't recollect anyone having a heart attack from some astronomical expense to have it done...
The Aisin is a VERY strong transmission, I owned 3 D/A combo's and I would rate it with an Allison...Towed the same 5er with both...The Allison and the Aisin are both very, very good transmissions. - PowerdudeExplorer

Same basic transmission, true.
Different clutch packs inside, according to a Ford tech. There is no point in wasting clutch packs rated for 840 ft. lbs of torque on a motor that only puts out 420 ft. lbs.
Forget where I saw it, probably FTE, but that's what the guy was claiming. No way I could verify it, but it would not surprise me. Manufacturer's are cheapening out on just about everything these days. - nevadanickExplorerThe party line wasnt a feature, it was all we had. Pick up the phone and if someone is talking you wait your turn.

#1. Weight
#2. Mileage
#3. Cost
If it was needed, that's one thing. Putting a medium duty tranny in a 1/2 ton truck is like shooting a fly with a 30.06.
I'm guessing when it's all said and done it will be the same as my 2500 Cheby having the "same tranny" as the US Army puts in their tanks. :B :R
PS as just an example to #2. The car I use to drive had a Turbo 400 on it. It used 53 HP to turn. The car I now drive has a PowerGlide in it which takes 23 HP to turn. That is a BUNCH of HP savings which means a BUNCH of mileage savings! - otrfunExplorer II

yep, and weighs approx. 160# more than the 68RFE auto tranny...heck of a tranny, I can vouch for that..thus far.
Let's not forget the additional HP TQ plus a SAE combined weight rating of 37,900#.
You forgot the latest photo and Jim.... well he forgot the first photo :B
Not that hard for a engineer, but what the heck new sh*t takes me awhile to understand also. Took forever to go from a dial call to a phone call with a touch tone. Then there's the party line thing :W That should weed out the youngsters :B
I remember the party line feature! :B- 45RicochetExplorer
