I recently bought a 2003 Apex 9.5 that's in pretty good condition. All the systems work, but I'm having trouble with the 120v AC power transfer. I get good AC power to everything when hooked to shore power, but neither the inverter or Onan generator seem to power anything. I've tested the inverter and generator and they have good power output. I suspect there's some kind of transfer switch that may be causing the problem, but I've not been able to find it. Thanks in advance for any help.

My Outfitter is older than yours and is equipped with an Onan propane generator, so I will assume it is constructed much like yours. There is a 'reset' of some sort located to the rear, on the outside of the battery box. There is barely enough space to slide a finger in there and push on the red button. Take a flashlight, look there, and if you find something, push and try to get a reset. Tom McCloud

Thanks for the reply. It's more help than I get from Outfitter who don't seem to want to answer any questions. I've checked all over the battery box and the only red buttons I can find are for the two 30/50 amp DC breakers. If one is popped, the generator won't start, but that's not my problem. The generator starts and runs fine, I just don't get any 120v AC power from it or from the inverter.

In the outside-accessible box where you spool out the electric cord for plugging into 'shore power', have you plugged your cord into the 30A box on the inside wall? That 30A box is where the power from the generator goes.Tom McCloud

Thanks so much! I found the socket in the outside wall box, plugged in and started the generator and now I have AC power from the generator. Next question: My camper has a big inverter that powers something, and I do know it is putting out 120 AC. Any idea where that power goes?

My Outfitter does not have an inverter, so no first hand experience there. In mine there is only one place to plug in for 120v, and that is a duplex plug on the forward wall near the floor. In mine, that plug is live when plugged into shore power, or when the generator is running, but dead otherwise. It has a test/reset button on it. Perhaps yours is live as a result of the inverter operating?? Tom McCloud

I too have one of the older Outfitters on here. A 2004 Apex 8 and still going strong. I replaced both of my electric waste valves with manual and Brian was most helpful telling me exactly where to cut a hole to access the old grey tank valve and how to position the new valve. He then followed up a couple of days later to insure that everything had gone smoothly.

Any other questions that I have had during the past 12+ years of Outfitter ownership have been promptly answered. I have nothing but good words to speak concerning Outfitter's Customer Service.

Just so you know, they were closed from Thanksgiving until the 29th so I doubt it was a coincidence. They were probably just getting caught up. They've provided great customer service for us as well. Sending a Facebook message does seem to garner a faster response than email for whatever reason. Glad you got your problem solved either way.

I have the factory manuals as well as the original owner's manual. Unfortunately none of that material answered my questions. I'm not negative about Outfitter. I'm pretty impressed by my camper so far.

I also agree with Whazoo. I have had my Apex 8 since 2011 and Bob and Outfitter have bent over backwards to answer my question. You get a more prompt response if you call, however. They have made repairs on my camper at no cost to me several times. Please don't be negative about them. They have outstanding customer service!! Also, any owners manuals that is not associated with the structure Outfitter gives the customer the factory manuals at purchase and the factory warranties apply. Do you have the factory manuals? Glad to have another Outfitter owner in the forum...Terry

I'll second Geewizards reply. Service to me has been great for going on ten years now. I'm sure that Bob would give you all the info you need if you were able to speak to him. Good luck, but it sounds like you have it figured out.

My 2011 Outfitter is equipped with a Xantrex 2000w inverter which takes 120V power from the genny and shore power to charge the batteries. It also takes DC power from the batteries to power the 120V plugs. Pretty elementary stuff. The problem is or was is that when we took delivery of the unit, nobody told us that the converter when on,which contains all of the AC/DC circuits, takes 120V from the inverter to charge the batteries even if the unit is not plugged into shore power or genny. Therefore, when I Tryed to run the 1600W micro dry camping, it tripped the inverter overload. Took awhile before I realized that the converter was robbing power from the inverter to charge the batteries to the tune of 800W therefore exceeding the 2000W limit of the inverter when it was trying to run the the micro.

Once the converter,s breaker was off, everything went back to normal. Your inverter may not be the same as ours but check to seeing your converter when on is not stealing power from the inverter to charge the batteries when there is not outside power(genny/shore) making it a cozy manage a tois of wasted battery power.
