- tinstartrvlrExplorerDon't know if this is related, but every time I take out the anode rod to inspect/replace, I flush the WH out. It's amazing how much crud comes off the heating element. OP's question makes me wonder if leaving it on electric all the time adds to the crud buildup on the element or would it do that anyway? If leaving it on always causes it, then that might be a reason to turn it off when not in use.
- 2oldmanExplorer IINo, I'm only talking about the wh.

If you have close neighbors, please turn off your gas WH at night. They're very loud. Take your shower at night before bed. That way you don't go to bed with the day's dirt on you, you'll sleep better, and your sheets will stay clean longer.
So, should I turn my a/c or furnace off at night? I'm sure those parked beside it or sleeping in a tent can hear it. - midnightsadieExplorer III turn it off only takes a couple min to heat back up.
- old_guyExplorerI turned mine off at the request of my mother in law. it kept waking her up when the burner would ignite
- I let mine run as long as the pump is on or have the hose connected.
Same as at home. - Community AlumniI turn mine off overnight. Ain't no point of wasting energy heating water that no one's going to take advantage of. We usually don't have a demand for hot water first thing in the morning anyway.

I tun mine ON when setting up and OFF when breaking camp.....be it for 1 day or a week.
I like HOT water when I want it ....not 20 minutes later while I wait for it to heat up
From safety point......don't turn it or fridge off when sleeping or when leaving RV.
They have safety features built in.
X2. I don't turn off my fridge while camping, while would I turn off my water heater.
As for noise, I don't find it loud during the night whether I'm inside or outside. And it only runs 10 minutes or less every several hours. Mine is also at the rear of my clipper so the noise is not directed towards my neighbors. - myredracerExplorer II

I could be a bit different than most at my age because I wear hearing aides and can't hear high pitched sounds but sure can hear some AC units chugging away.myredracer wrote:
I guess that's a matter of opinion. I've been around some water heaters that fire up with a bang louder than a generator. A/c.. not so much.
Worst noise is being next to someone with a loud AC unit that runs continuous day/night in warm or cold weather... - 2oldmanExplorer II
