- Charlie_D_Explorer[]Congrats to Ram on outselling the GM offering, I have felt for years that the GM product was a few notches down from Ford and Ram, more peoples must be noticing this too.
Ram did not outsell GM. GM is also late coming out with their HD models for 2019. - tomman58ExplorerOne thing I notice on these threads about trucks or campers is there are many and I mean many that have pointed and waning positions on the topics involving trucks and campers. The thing that stands out in comparisons such as this one are the vast number of posters that show there campers and trucks to be over 8 to 15 years old, hardly any real comparison to the say 2016 thru to the new ones. Changes are dramatic every couple of years for all of them.
- STANG23LExplorerRust will never go away in MN/WI with the amount of salt being used. Ten years, if you can make it that long without major rust. Your doing alright. My 14' Ram 1500 is still rust free including the frame. My aftermarket running boards are shot though and have rusted thru, will replace them this summer.
- GrooverExplorer III try not to be a fan boy and obviously I am biased towards Fords but Ram has won nearly every 2019 truck comparison that I have seen. I think that a lot of people out there think that Ram has simply put out a better 2019 model than Chevy. I am actually surprised that Ford has held on to their market share while selling against two new competitors. I am under the impression that Ford has some major improvements coming for 2020 and it will be interesting to see those.
Meanwhile, Chevy needs to come up with more compelling reasons to buy their truck, starting with motors. Based on the language in the manual pushing premium fuel for the 6.2 when towing I won't even consider the Chevy since I tow a lot. The new turbo 2.7 Chevy comes up way short against Ford's 2.7 turbo. That leaves the 5.3 as the only engine that I would even consider. I shouldn't be saying this as I have a pretty good holding of GM stock but I have to call it as I see it.
The frustrating part to me is that each brand has at least one exclusive feature that I really like. I sure would like to get it all on one truck. - mich800Explorer

Rust can still be a problem for all manufactures. There isn’t one brand that i would say is immune.
It sure is nice though that a known troll just happens to have a photo of his least favorite brand when a rust discussion comes up. Completely credible.
That is the reality. Here in Michigan I do not see a disproportionate rust problem with any of the makes. There are examples of all brands rusting from similar model years. I think there is some observational bias going on. - Bionic_ManExplorerI thought rust issues were a thing of the past until three years ago when I started traveling to the mid west for work.

I can see that happening. The Ram quality is amazing! I will not be buying Fords anymore due to the rust issues! My neighbor has an 11 F150 that has been rusting for the past 4 years. To the point it looks like junk. My wife’s 13 Explorer has rear doors that are starting to rust where the door skin wraps over the door frame. And the hood paint is peeling. I have yet to see any 4 year old Rams rusted this badly let alone 7 or 8 years old! And the Hemi doesn’t have the timing chain/phaser/spark plug issues the Ford has.
I currently own the following Fords, a 2016, a 2013, a 2005 and a 2003. I sold a 1991 model in 2013 and a 2003 model in 2016. None have (or had) any of the issues that you are complaining about. I guess that you just had bad luck. It happens sometimes.
The rust belt shows all the rust issues manuf have. In the last 10
Years it has shifted to Ford having the problems. I see very few Dodge/Rams with rust issues.
Truck from one of the machinist I knew... Another one had his front bumper replaced because the chrome was pealing and the bumper was rusting.
That truck has been at least partially overboard in salt water. Boat ramp comes to mind. - alexleblancExplorer

I compared the 19 Limited to an 18 Platinum. RAM has stepped up the game tremendously, that interior is just fantastic from materials, to stitching to the electronics. I went with the Platinum though for several reasons.
Ram, not known for reliability
Dealerships not known for decent care
Unknown crash ratings (which recently have been done and RAM matches Ford with 5 stars)
Unknown if the rust issues have been solved
poor engine choices
lack of available payload.
No tailgate step
known for having electrical issues
Aside from the Ford having a dated interior, it is still a rather good truck and I can see why it is still #1.
6 engine choices
Highest payload and towing
over 6 million combinations that can be built (mind blowing too when one is built every 53 seconds)
very nice styling.
GM will continue to stay at the bottom unless they fire all their engineers and hire some with talent and imagination instead of coming out with the same old same old style year after year. And please, that complicated tailgate? A disaster in the making.
About the only thing I did like that GM had over both Ford and Ram was the camera system. Doesn't say much does it.
Lets not forget Ford still has a dated frame in the SD line.
Payload, Ford F350 SRW max GVWR, is 11,500# Max GVWR Ram 3500 SRW is 12,300#, the only reason Ford can advertise Max payload is their stripper model is lighter than the Ram stripper.
You don't need six engine choices, if you have three great engine choices.
The frame design in the SD is two years old, new for 2017 - how could that be considered dated?
Also the payload on the F350 srw is comparable to the ram 3500 when equipped similarly as the aluminum body weighs less. I checked out what I could find online and it seems like matching optioned trucks the ram has a slight edge in payload but it’s not the 800# you make it sound like, it’s more like 200-350#.

In 2011 they sold 244,762 and in 2018 they sold 536,980. In the same period Chevy Silverado sales went from 415,130 to 585,581.
This echos many posts on this forum that Ram has stepped up their game big time.
Take it easy,
Stu
